Hi,

do you have recommendations on External mics other than the Panasonic?

I'm looking for one under $50US. Something I would seldom use but nice
to have. Should be better than the internal mic.

what specs should one look for? are these passive type stereo mics or they are active?

thanks.

sorry i don't know any good mics for under $50, but i can highly recommend the Sennheiser MKE 400 which retails for a little under $200.....it is an amazing micro shotgun mic in the smallest form factor you will ever see!

personally, i've never had a <$200 mic that was worth the money i spent on it.
if you just need to record audio for reference, you're better off not spending any money at all and just using the cam's built-in mic....otherwise, using something like the mke400 you'll frequently find that the 'reference' audio you record on it is actually usable! =)

for that price, it might be worth a try.
audio technica has a reputation of making some surprisingly good quality equipment for very affordable prices.

note that the mic would be a lot like your built-in mic...similar pickup pattern, so you're not improving the situation much, imo.
but at least you'll have a mic you can move around and position off-camera closer to the subject.

I have a shotgun mic, but it dosent fit on the GH1's small input. What kind of adapter do I need for this? Where can I get one?

Its a standard shotgun like for the VX1000 etc..Thanks

I know sennheiser is a great brand. more than I can afford.

so something like this is not worth the troubles?

Coming from a professional audio background I would not put that Mic in the field. That is a studio Microphone meaning it is very sensitive to sound. There is a reason for "shotgun" mics.

Sure it might pick up sound, but it will be horrible. I suggest saving a little bit more money and get something descent for $200-300

I recently bought myself an Azden SGM1X, which has been said to be an ok mic for people with a budget, but wasn't able to buy myself a external recorder. I connected my mic to my GH1 but am having problems in getting the audio right. When I look at playback I mostly hear a loud buzzing static sound and barely hear any sound. Is this because of the audio gain and my camera having trouble working with my mic? I tested out my mic by connecting it to me computer and was able to get decent sound so I know the mic doesn't have a problem. Would getting even a really cheap recorder help till I can get myself a decent one?
