External Hard Drives

I'm looking to get an external hard drive 1TB or higher. What brands do you recommend and where should I buy from?

they don't make good 1TB single drives yet. if you want 1TB I suggest getting two 500GB ones instead. WD are safe but there are many other ones that are good as well. just stay away from Maxtor

Hey Dean, I picked up a 1 TB WD from Costco. They've got them for $299.

I guess mileage varies. The only drive I ever had that failed was a WD. I have a bunch of Maxtor's daisy chained (about 1.5 TB worth) Never had a problem.

watch out for those lacie. they run hot and die a lot.

if parity and speed are important, build a raid.

I've never used a lacie HD, but I had more problems with my LaCie DVD-RW than I can count. I sent it back 3 times and no matter how many times I told them what the problem was, they never got it right. Now it's a doorstop.
