I am looking at different esata external harddrives at the moment ....but Im useing a beefy laptop at the moment with edius broadcast version 4.24[soon to be 4.5.]

So whats the best way and where to get an adaptor to either the usb, firewire or pcmcia slots to connect to an esata drive from the laptop.I know if I were useing a workstation I would have a pci slot but alas no on the laptop and will I loose lots of transfer speed?

Dual atherlons 2gig of ram etc

Not that it applies to your situation, but others who want Mac compatibility should avoid the Addonics ExpressCard/34 to eSata cards. There is no driver for Mac.

Cooldrives makes an enclosure that supports USB 2.0, FW 400 & 800 and eSata for about $110-$120. Buy your own Sata II drive and you're all set ... unless you need to be in the field with no AC power ... or if you want a mirrored drive in case one of your drives goes south.

I have a Seritek 2SM2-E card (ExpressCard/34 to eSata) that has worked well so far. It's more expensive than the Addonics.

Looks like your particular situation will determine what you buy.
