I... the second thing i'm considering at the moment is a samurai blade since i would get a good and small external monitor and recorder at the same time.
Got the Blade one month ago. I bought it to bridge the time until 7Q will be available. It's a great to have this recorder
with standard NP series battery and affordable HDD. But I have to say that I am a little disappointed of the monitor.
I had a side by side comparision with the Samurai and the difference is not that big. Both have a kind of milky and glossy
screen which is not suitable for shooting in daylight outdoors. The Blade is sharper and has more details, vectorscope
is a nice feature but hard to see in bright daylight even with a hood. Up to now I didn't find an overlay setting in which
you see the vectorscope with the marking lines and the full content of framing both. Samurai monitor is even a little
brighter than the Blade monitor. And 5" is too small as a field monitor, esp when you use onscreen tools as vectorscope.
Unfortunately FS700 ist still 8bit in SDI out with FW 3.0 - 10bit ProRes would probably be enough for 80% of my purpose.
So my first impression: it's first of all a recorder and not suitable to subsitute a field monitor.
Here's a side by side on the FS700, but it's inside my studio and on the photo it looks better than in reality
blade looks bigger because it was closer to the photo camera, size is the same
better viewing angle of the Blade
