FS7: Exposing S-log3 in the snow

It still costs time and money to adjust every single shot. If it can be avoided, great! Thats why documentaries go for REC709.

Is these images XAVC 10bit?

As said if the operator consistently exposes to match an agreed lut/ISO, the post dept should be able to add that LUT to all footage at minimal cost and not correct individual files.

ETTR, CineEI, call it what you want the single LUT should hit the mark, just not the LUT sony ship.

(incedentally exactly what deakins does.. shoots to his lut)

======

Yes 4k 10bit

to understand them better..

"Before Correction" is the WFM of the un corrected file aka what was shot and what the operator would have seen on their lutless camera scopes.

Well in that case, im very happy to be wrong. Nice to know there is even better quality to be had from my camera! :-)

But why is that? Theres almost no extra bits available up top than there is at the bottom.

So you are seeing the 'hot' .. im going to stop calling it ETTR as people think that means take a file to clip.. is a cleaner image?

Why is it cleaner?

I dunno.. probably XAVC butchers the shadows to keep the data rate so low, s/n ratio.. who knows :)
