Export widescreen in Avid Xpress Pro

Shot DV to tape in squeeze (16:9) at 30p with my HVX. Captured to a 30i NTSC project. Changed monitor view to 16:9 video. Everything looks fine but every export option I have tried looks like .9 pixels (4:3) in Quicktime. I am exporting as a Quicktime movie and changing the default options. I have tried native, custom with 720x486 size to fit and crop/pad, custom 720x480DV size to fit etc. I have tried dozens of combinations and all end up with .9 pixels and the 4:3 aspect.

Ultimately I am taking this into Premiere Pro 2 and "interpreting footage" as 16:9 1.2 which ends up looking fine.

How can I get the export to display the correct aspect ratio?

If you export in native format it will always come out in 720 x 480 even if you shot in squeeze mode. That is it's native dimension.

If you want to have the 16 x 9 aspect ratio as a stand alone file, export as: 853 x 480 or some other scaled down version if you aren't wanting the original size.

BTW, if its for DVD (which you didn't specify...) you would export a quicktime reference in native. You would then have your DVD authoring software flag the file as 16 x 9 and handle the conversion for you rather than forcing out its "stand alone" version counterpart.

P.S. This is an Avid forum question and should be posted below.

Good luck.
