Experimental Film

Very artsy - you should come to my school -> the arrogant artists here would love you :)

It was cool - very... super8 ish - ya know? Lots of experimental films that I can't make sense out of - lots of duotoning and whatnot going on...

I love shorts like this - ones that you have no idea of what they are about. One's that would make the average internet user say, "OMG WTF?"

I enjoyed it... but is seems that there might have been some phallic undertones there.... I SWEAR TO GOD I SAW IT...

I am sure this is going to sound arragont(sp?) but lots of people who say they do experimental film just throw crazy stuff together and say its experimental.

personally I think that the film has to have meaning first. Its felt like you took some effects in after effects and stuck it together.

but then again if you can bull sh*t your way through, anything can be art.

yeah its just like the photography on your site, its felt like you just took a camera and shot crazy stuff

You dont sound arrogant, just dumb. Sure, one man's art is another man's "bullsh*t", but you are missing the big picture. Film doesnt always have to have a meaning. It could be a story with a beginning middle and end, it could have a point or meaning, or it can just be a visual experience. Becuase its not your thing doesnt make it bullsh"t.

as for me, it didn't even work - only the audio. it said that quicktime had an error trying to play it. tried it 3 times. btw, why make it a quicktime? file size? why not a .wmv? or something that will play without plug ins on windows media player (which the majority of people have)??

Dr D :)

i guess thats where art gets it beauty. By the way, thanks for visiting my site :)

It reminds me of a story. There a 3 people who claim to be artists. which one is the real artist?

1.) someone who played the flute for 20+ years. went through school and is a master of the flute.

2.) someone who has played the flute for a very long time. But he only plays very very high pitched sounds and played "unconventional" notes and rythms

3.) a person who never used the flute and plays it backwards. he blows through the other side and makes bizarre notes.

guess a line between a artist and non artist can never be drawn. is it really as subjective as the above? art is in the eye of the beholder?

when i said art is bullsh*t I meant all art is bullshit. Art is the most subjective thing you can do.

Didn't mean to hijack this thread. Just expressing my own personal opinion.

I would love to join the fray, but i truly have developed a loathing for quciktime. i have only been able to watch maybe 3 out of 5 quicktime clips ever posted. i never, no matter how often i update have the right plug in..... i hate QT.....

i really want to see this now.

I like macs and all. but.... QT needs to die.

The clip at the top uses the newest codec H.264, and you'd need the QT 7 preview for windows to view it. You can get it at http://www.apple.com/quicktime

Otherwise I've encoded another MPEG-4 quicktime file that you should be able to view with quicktime 6.. if it doesn't work update your quicktime drivers.

Hey dude, its totally beautiful though, as an image.

it does look a little to random to me though. although i did see some Oilwell/Mushroom cloud imagery... but hat sort of thing is too general for my taste.

but if you carefully selected the imagery, you could have somethign very meaning ful as well as beautiful. I am a Video artist/sculptor, and i liked it. BUT.... You have to be REALLLLLY deliberate with the images you use. you cant just use X because its pretty. You have to be accountable for every frame of your video and its content. Its sort of the same rules apply as old paintings. They didint do anythign by accident.

Thank you for your reply. I still stand by my work and feel that I did not to anything by accident. I painstakingly chose each shot to the best of my ability and if you can't see that, then maybe you weren't meant to.

Nothing was by accident. Maybe I'll explain it, but for now I can at least give the piece a title which is : Distillate.

I liked it. Fun visuals. I was in the office and didnt' have the sound on, but will once I get home. Was the city skyline old stock footage?

That wasn't exactly city skyline.. it was stock footage of oil derricks and smoke stacks.

I really liked it man. Dont get me wrong. infact i liked it enough to save it on my "cool art stuff" Folder. lol.

I wasnt really talking specifically to you, though, that is how i typed it. Sorry, man, didint mean to Talk down to you. But i really do dislike very arbitrary images. But having a title really can hold a piece together.

Seriously though i really liked it. Was it Chroma keyed? because i just yesterday leanred how to chroma key.
