What are the general expections for NAB '09...

Apple Final Cut Studio 3?
Apple Shake 5?
Panasonic HVX250?

Indy....

1) Hopefully Panasonic will bring the P2 card prices down by 20% or 25%.

2) I'm just to about to buy an hpx170. It would be nice if they had the same sized camera with the 1080/24pN mode that the big cameras have. I understand that the codec is different, but the technology is there.

Shake is dead for long time - in status quo - no development since 2007 I guess
you can buy some code to devolop your utilites for it... or so

... but maybe Im wrong :)

"Phenomenon" was supposed to be Shake's successor...what happened to that? There's no news on Apple's Pro Apps in the recent years..besides minor updates...

Its final cut pro's 10th year anniversary, I hope there will be new Final Cut Studio version available. Especially they need to improve Apple Color.

I expect Apple will release Final Cut Studio 3 around the time of NAB. The pattern is becoming every 2 years.

I'm pretty confident Shake is dead. It's still being used in many facilities but they are slowly switching to Nuke. I hate to admit but I think Apple is devoting less time on pro apps. Even pro hardware for that matter. That said, I'm still a die hard mac user to the bitter end!

I think Apple has officially completely pulled out of trade shows, with the last being Macworld, so I doubt Apple will update Final Cut or any other Pro App at NAB.

I really hope that they stick with Final Cut and their other pro apps. It seems like a large amount of the film and commercial post community uses Final Cut and not just Avid. I can't imagine Apple dumping all that just to focus on ipods and iMacs.

Personally, I really don't want to have to go back to PC's for editing and well, computing in general. Sure a PC works fine but I love my Mac. Plus, Apple makes excellent monitors as well. I guess I'm just spoiled.

If Apple doesn't announce anything this NAB, then I would bet they will announce Final Cut Studio 3 around the same time or maybe during the summer. If not by then, maybe early fall at the latest would be my best guess.

last Batman VFX were done on Shake ;p)

well it was rather Shake on steroids which can handle 6K (8K)

I don't think we're ready for a full revision to Final Cut Studio. We haven't even hit Final Cut Pro 6.1 yet.

I could be way off on this, but I would expect a few more incremental revisions before we see FCS3 hit the market. Maybe even FCS 2.5 will come out if there are major revisions to programs other than Final Cut Pro (like Color, for instance).

Nektonic, I would not worry about Apple dumping FCS. It has a significant piece of the market, without question.

I'm probably just being paranoid. Don't get me wrong, I can use a PC just fine, and I like Adobe's stuff a lot too. But I love using Final Cut and working on a Mac. There is just no comparison and if you want reliability then the PC is just not as easy to justify. Plus, now I can get Adobe Premiere for the Mac if I ever feel the need.
