hey,i purchased a EX3 & the Glidecam 4000 kit from b&h and a ikan monitor but my question is will this setup be to heavy in terms of to much weight for the glidecam to support and will it be too heavy as in this setup being very uncomfortable. my most recent setup is/was a xha1 and a letus extreme and a 70-210nikon lens. my xha1 weighs about 10-12 lbs give or take a pound or two depending on which lens i use. and i have my xha1 setup on a varizoom dv media rig which hurts every muslce in my upper body.

so..am i heading towards any comfort? are things going to be about the same? or is it looking worse for me?

i also forgot to add that i do have a chroisziel mattebox on my setup as well..

Add up all your accessories and camera...find out their weight... add together...then compare that, to what they say it can hold. Simple.

Yes, it's far too heavy if you intend using it without a body brace. I speak from experience and a nearly ruined right arm--wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

i have the body brace..i tested it out today since everything came in the mail today..it is very heavy but once i get use to it ill be able to handle it..its like im fighting it to stay straight 90% of the time..it doesnt really make sense but when i put it on my varizoom dv cam should mount its not really that heavy..but when its on the glidecam system its extremely wobbely and out of control..

another thing..for people that nver used a glidecam system with the x10 and body brace..it is a learning curve..not as easy as it looks specially when you have more than just a stock/bare camera..my shoulders and my neck and lower back still aches from having my setup on..it takes some time to get use to how the x10 arms swing and move..i mean the camera doesnt reflect all the movement it looks like the camera is just floating in place but the x10 arms do move alot!!!

I have the same Glidecam system Anwar. Do your self a really big favor and go to the Steadicam site and buy the tutorial dvds. Not only will they teach you how not to damage your back permanently, they will also prevent you from learning bad habits that will eventually undermine your Glidecam experience. Its like having a private tutor and has made a world of difference in my Glidecam work.

Totally second that

after some research..i found that my setup is unfortunately far to heavy for a glidecam 4000..it only supports up 10lbs and thought i would be able to get away with it. when i only have the camera on it, its still flopping every way possible and im scared 98% of the time that the camera is just going to fly off the baseplate and just bang the floor.

does anybody know if i can just upgrade the sled/base to like a 'GLIDECAM X-22' sled/base? would my vest/arm setup from my 4000 support it? or will i be able to attach it for that matter?

Again, call Tom or Dave at Glidecam. If just your camera is up to 10 lbs and it is flopping around then you havnt set up and balanced the rig correctly. Buy a dvd on the system or get info on the phone. I have a 6 lb rig using a Canon 5d camera on a Glidecam 2000 HD (with the X-10 product) and it floats like a cloud.

lol..i wish my setup would float like a cloud..that would be epic..

thanks for the info, ill give them a call..
