I wanted to share some thoughts in hopes that DVXUSER remains a useful source of knowledge.
I now have two EX1 cameras. I had three HVX's over the last 1.5 years. Just sold the third. I still love the HVX cameras. And honestly I hope DVXUSER remains friendly to users of other cameras. I have thought about it and the reason I like DVXUSER is that no matter what camera we are using today, most of us started out getting inspired by owning the DVX. And it was the DVX that was the first camera which inspired us to be serious about making digital films, not just video. Now today several years later, the technology has matured, and there is a plethora of choices when it comes to 24p cameras. I have chosen that the EX1 will best suit our needs from a business standpoint and a film-making standpoint. I hope this website remains about filmmaking and not just technical issues. I of course appreciate the technical discussions, but sometimes there is fanboyism. I do not have a problem with people pointing out issues with cameras. It is good to know when planning for shooting. I am glad I know the weaknesses on the EX1. Every camera has weaknesses. These are tools
I hope this website matures and the community focuses on filmmaking. I began with my trusty DVX about five years ago. Before that most of my work was graphics creation and post production. I did shooting, but the video world limited my inspiration. The DVX inspired me to make art before I get to Post. It inspired me to focus more on lighting and framing. As a tool it was invaluable. I since moved on to HVX's and now EX1's. And I believe that at some point Panasonic will top the EX1 again. Now whether I switch again is a question I cannot answer. I stated other places that the main reasons I switched this time was the fact that most of my shooting is worldwide and the multi-system nature of the EX1 was invaluable. (It is also nice for the SxS cards to fit in my Macbook easily and I cannot see Panasonic leaving P2 anytime soon) There are other reasons. I still love the HVX and am not looking forward to shipping my third HVX that just sold today.
So I just hope we can move past fanboyism and help each other make better films.
