EX1 LANC Split?

We did a two camera shoot yesterday, trying to get a bunch of hand held one liners from people. The thing is, all of the timing on the recorded files is off. I started and stopped after each section, wherein my coworker left it running between some of them. We didn't start or end at the same timing, either. Is there a way to split a LANC so it would control both cameras? I googled it, but found nothing. This would really have made the post a lot easier.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, we ran across that, but I was hoping for something with one less step in post.

Does anyone have any experience with the above software? Is it simple? I mean SIMPLE.

One less step? You push a button and all the audio lines up. Otherwise the thing is, you have to be organized at the shoot to all start and stop together, even if it's not in sync. Either all keep the cameras rolling, or all start & stop.

The software looks simple enough. Your only other option at this point is to line up the files by hand. That's many steps. Make sure your waveforms are visible in FCP (or whatever) and zoom in to a sharp sound like a clap or something, and eyeball. I've done it that way and it works just fine, though it's tedious with lots of shots. The plural eyes software just does it instantly.

I see what you're saying, but I have over 100 shots from this shoot. Lining up all over those audio files through audio would take roughly 50 sequences, as opposed to having file Take1_A and Take1_B be the exact same timing. with a LANC split. That's why I think that would be more beneficial.

I have not heard of EX1 cameras being synced by LANC. Maybe they can be, but I have yet to hear of it. PluralEyes seems like just what you need. You don't need to start a new sequence for every clip do you? Is that what Plural Eyes requires you to do? Anyway, I now have 2 EX1 cams, and will be doing multicam stuff. If there is a LANC syncability I'm all over it (unless the cameras need to be apart from each other more than 10 feet.) When I can afford yet another purchase I have pluraleyes on my list. I'm just not sure how it works. Like in your case with one long clip with all interviews, and B-cam clips, all individually cut. Would they all sync to the long clip? Would you have to cut the long clip up so it can sync with the cut clips? Who knows.... But with 100 shots to deal with it seems like the software was designed for your situation.

Well if you want them to remain synced (sunk?), you can't take them from the timeline, and you'll need one sequence for each grouping, unless you just want a lot back to back that you lose a lot easier.

Anyone else have any idea if the LANC can be split?

You don't need a separate sequence for each clip with PluralEyes. You just put all the clips from the two cameras into a single sequence (one track for each camera) and press the Sync button. It should be much easier than any of the alternatives you are exploring.

There is a fully functional 30-day trial of PluralEyes that is available, so you could try it and see if it does what you are looking for.

That's good to know! I am considering plural eyes myself, and wondered how it worked. Like in the situation they described where one track is all one long take, and the other track is in pieces, will the pieces line up with the long track? Or if your long track has a lot of useless footage - can you cut it up on the timeline and have it all sync based on the clips, rather than the original file?

And another question: What if the audio from one camera is not as good as on the other, as in from a distance away like the back of a concert hall with different reverb off the walls etc. How degraded can the audio be and still sync up?

Thanks.
