EX1 discontinued???

I wrote to B&H this morning and here's the response I received...

"We are currently getting more info from SONY at this time its Still just Back Ordered. But we may have received some info that the item was very Backordered and stopped taking orders. But you can place orders now via Phone for the camera".

I'm going to take a wait and see attitude for now. I wished I could get the EX3 but I have a $10,000 budget and I need a couple of Swit batteries, a couple of 32 gig SXS cards, cam warranty, carrying bag, Tiffen T1 Filter, UV Filter and Comer 1800 LED light... so for now I'll wait... looks like I gotta wait anyway.

A few months back I checked prices on 16GB SxS cards. B&H's site said those were discontinued. Then a month later they were back in stock. So I wouldn't always take that word for it.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out though! I'm all for an upgrade firmware option for 50 MB/s recording and a pre-record cache! The latter is one I've been salivating over if it happens.

I don't think the firmware can't do that even if Sony were willing to offer it, I believe for 50Mbps you need both encoding chips, the EX's only have one inside, so they are hardware limited to 35Mbps. I could be wrong though, Mike from CD would know much more. The nanoFlash has both encoders and can do up to 160Mbps so its not unreasonable to think a single chip could do up to 80Mbps...

Sony are much more likely to sell a 50Mbps model as a new model though, don't hold your breath on them doing anything right by their customers once they have their money.
