EVS test footage of JVC LS 300

Put the camera in your hand and try it, shoot with it, edit the footage.....if we thought it was "lackluster", we wouldn't have signed up, presented it to key rental houses in town, on-going meetings with film schools, etc.....in other words, we know what we're doing and have been doing this for quite a while...If the camera was sub-par, we would not be involved......

Point taken, Jim. I didn't intend to be overly critical of JVC's fine efforts, or to slight your professional expertise. Of course, viewing video through the "frosted lens" of YouTube compression isn't totally fair, either. The price point is attractive enough to warrant a trial, to be sure. After the NAB announcements (or lack thereof), I think many of us will take the decision, and the JVC camera, more seriously.

The LS 300 is in stock now and, if you are in LA, we have an exclusive "try & buy" program in the rental dept.....you can have a 1 day free rental (w/deposit or insurance) of the camera to check it out and put it through your paces. If you rent it on a Friday, you'll have it for the weekend and then return it on Monday morning. This program will go through the end of June.

"if you are in LA"....
Do I take that as you are not in LA?.....we could extend the program to outside of LA but I don't think it would be very practical....one would have to pay for overnight shipping both ways and any credit verification could add time on to that.....

Right..a huge number of us aren't. Greater Chicago folks might wanna check it out. But making downloadable footage for all might be sensible.

JVC actually hired someone in Chicago to shoot test footage and that should be up soon on JVC's site.....

When we saw footage from the FS100, FS700, C100 and C300, we could at least say, we liked the footage we saw "on the internet". If I were JVC, I would have rolled this camera out with Professionally shot footage, so we could at least see MAXIMIZED footage of what the camera can do........

I agree that it'd be nice to see what this camera could do with a $20K lens on it when used by an oscar-awarded cinematographer. But it's also nice IMO to see what it can do with affordable lenses and a regular camera operator, because that's what I'm working with.

And even viewing it through Youtube isn't such a bad idea, considering that most of my work ends up streaming across the internet in some fashion anyways. But it'd be nice to see what the original files look like. Perhaps someone could post some footage to Vimeo with the download option enabled?

Yes, what Benjobe said!!!! And my point was professionally shot with $500 - $800 lenses (not $20K lenses). Just want to see a good edited version of finished footage. I don't think that's too much to ask........

wedding season for me starts this weekend, and Id be more than happy to run the LS300 through it's paces, in all sorts of environments

Unless you remove unspecified processing/compression in delivery, there will be potential confusion over what the cam itself delivers. Maybe Jim's not the one to provide this on a broader/web scale..but someone at JVC likely is. Who is the Jan Crittendon of JVC? :) This "Hey..c'mon over" bit is wearing thin, feels a bit cagey at this point...and reminds me of car dealerships when they ask you to "sit here and explore options". We do "have the technology" for download of native files. And that goes for ALL camera manufacturers...especially considering how they now market grading friendly codecs/bitrates etc. Should be SOP, unless ...

I'd suggest you get you hands on a LS 300 before you dismiss it by just looking at internet footage......

Every other good camera has great clips online. Why this JVC is the only one we need to check in person to see at least good, not great footage? Alexa footage still looks stunning online. GH4 footage looks good online. FS7 footage looks good online and in person doesn't look that much better than what's online. Online compression is bad but it doesn't really turn footage 180 from great to lackluster. Besides why not make the original files available for download as somebody asked?

I know you are selling the camera. But the footage is not impressing anybody and no amount of praise to lackluster footage will change this. The check it in person argument is getting old too. Sorry.

Well, look. I don't think most people are in a hurry. No reason to rush to buy this camera. Why not wait until it's in the hands of users? Let the early adopters try it out, and they'll upload all the footage you may want and provide personal experience and feedback to boot. At that point there will be no more hiding or cagy games. And then the camera will either be impressive or not - it'll find its niche if it's any good at all. So no sweat, just kick back and wait for the footage to emerge, no need to badger anyone to please, please, please upload files! Relax, everything is under control, and nature will take its course.

I passed on your request to the right person a JVC.....they control the footage and as we speak, they are finishing the edit and will get these new samples up and have the files ready for download......also, for those of you at NAB, they obviously will have commissioned footage up on big 1080 & 4K monitors....
