Here's our test footage we shot on the LS 300:

Be sure to change your Youtube settings to 4K and give it a chance to load.....there might be some compression issues depending on your computer. We've mixed 24 and 30fps.....all the 30fps is using the "Cinema Subdued" gamma setting and the 24fps is using the 'Cinema Standard" gamma setting.

The footage looks much nicer with the Veydra 25mm than with Oly and Rokinon.

Yes, the Veydra looks very nice but we were surprised how well the $500 Olympus zoom did look...since there is a bit of a trend to try older lenses, we wanted to give one a try......

That footage looks much better than anything I seen so far from this camera. Was it graded or straight-from-camera?

It's remarkable the difference between the Veydra and the others. Now I'm considering getting this camera AND those primes!

No grading at all....we didn't want to help it, just rest on it's merits......

ps- PM me if you'd like to order both!

Thanks Jim! I agree with Benjobe, looks great with good glass (kudos to the folks at Veydra). I'm sure zeiss primes would work great with the JVC LS300 too!

It doesn't look bad. Just not impressive at all. Lot's of things to dislike. Then again I said it before. It's a $4000 camera. What can you expect? But the more I look at footage from this JVC the more it reminds of the AF100. Dynamic range looks similar, overall image quality looks similar. Panasonic colors look better though. The only difference seems to be the 4K. But since nobody is delivering 4K yet and with used AF100s going for $1000, I'm not sure.

Jim's group made a gallant effort, but I think the camera is lackluster overall. The image just seems to fall short. I really wanted to like this cam, but think I'm going to look elsewhere (Sony in all likelihood).

Put the camera in your hand and try it, shoot with it, edit the footage.....if we thought it was "lackluster", we wouldn't have signed up, presented it to key rental houses in town, on-going meetings with film schools, etc.....in other words, we know what we're doing and have been doing this for quite a while...If the camera was sub-par, we would not be involved......

Aren't Veydras 4/3" format? If so they would vignette on S35 sensor.
S35 sensor is roughly 30mm diagonal while 4/3" is 22mm.
So what's the deal? Either the sensor is not s35 or the lenses are used beyond their designation and the corner performance sucks...

the camera has a kind of "lens remap" function (VSM-variable scan mapping)that allows you to manually set via menu how much % of the image circle to use, so you can basically use "almost" any type of lens as long as its adapted to its m4/3 mount.

Watch this vid to see how much tweaks you can do via menu.
Go to 8:44 to see the VSM feature.

Not having seen the manual, Matt (in his Vimeo clip) doesn't say what resolution the MFT crop gives. If it's a 20% reduction from the 8.3MPX UHD, then it's about 6.5 MPX in MFT ... still better than Alexa or Amira.

Nothing against JVC, as I was rooting for them on this one. I can honestly state "This camera would be priced right, closer to $3000"............Just my thoughts.

The Veydra 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm project image circles of 31mm, 31mm, and 33mm respectively.

The 12mm and 16mm project images circle of 24mm and 26mm and will work on the JVC since it has Variable Scan Mapping.

Looking at all the footage that's been posted over the past few months, the image quality reminds me of my AF100, especially in the hi-light handling. (tho' low-light seems a bit better.)
It doesn't feel like a leap forward in terms of IQ.
I think the LS300 is a good camera for the price and has some nice features, but in my opinion, it feels like it's a 4k replacement for the Panasonic, but not really a successor.
