EVOLUCION is a spanish fairy tale that was inspired by the theory of evolution and a stuffed animal. I wanted to make something that marked the transition from the HV30 to the GH1 that so many of us are making - here is 5 minutes worth of "intercut footage". As much as I love the GH1, the HV30 can still hold it's own:)

I hope you all enjoy the film,

Trey

wow. that was one of the most professionally done and enthralling things I've yet to see posted on DVX. BRAVO.

I'm dying to know which shots were gh13 as the entire thing was in extremely low light situations and I did not see FPN as opposed to normal grain/noise so I find it hard to believe gh1 was involved.

p.s. awesome use of pan's labyrinth and the fountain's inspiring soundtracks

That's very kind of you, my friend. I'll post some screen grabs when I get a chance so I can explain which shots were done on the GH1.

Take care,

That was awesome! What a clever story. I didn't want it to end...

Your lighting and camerawork really sold me here. Whoever was manipulating the doll did a pretty good job of keeping it "believable" and not reminding me "I'm watching a movie."

Props :)

let me guess your gh1 was purchased sometime this year (i.e. it's a new one).

seems to have the new sensor with no FPN in low light :furious3::furious3:

You would be correct in your assumption, sir;)

What is FPN?

fixed pattern noise. people who purchased their gh1 last year seem to have an old sensor because panasonic moved the production location from some factory in china to a different better one apparently late last year or early this year. so gh1's purchased after that point SEEM to have a newer/better sensor that is very clear of noise in low light whereas gh1's from last year have atrocious adn horrendous fixed pattern noise (banding) in low light situations. you seem to be a lucky one I never saw such clear ultra low light footage. what ISO did you shoot at?

ISO/FPN/lOW LIGHT

ISO/FPN/lOW LIGHT

I kept the ISO as low as possible. I don't think I ever went past 400. Have you tried the "burn in"? I hear that helps with noise.

to my knowledge most people have had little to zero or negligible results with the burn in.

my camera is on the very cusp of old to new sensors so I'm not even sure which one I have as I have not shot too much super low light footage but I FEAR it is the old one just because I do see pronounced FPN but then again not as much as some others so I don't know, just haven't had the time to do a full on test to determine it.
I just don't see how it's possible you used 400 ISO and kit lens which is super slow f/4.0 and still got usable footage.

...well I also used two 250 watt lowell pros that were very close to the ape and camera. So there was plenty of light on the area of interest (ape, sink and cup) most of the time. And I used cinefoil to keep everything else pretty much pitch black. The only time I may have had to take the ISO up higher than I wanted was on the opening dolly shot of the boy. This was a much wider shot than the others so I couldn't get the lights in as close.
