Hi guys. Has anyone had any experience with this VF? There's very little info online outside of a few Canon promotional films.

I'm considering trading a few bits in to get one as I've got a C300 MKII and soon a C200 and I'd like a good VF that doesn't require external power.

I was wondering if there was a 1/4 20" tap on the side that can be used for mounting using my Wooden Camera UVF mount. Canon's mounts are a bit clunky for me.

Also any other thoughts about the overall picture quality would be great.

I don’t own it (though I am considering it in the future) but I have tried it out and I remember putting my eye up to it the first time and legitimately being blown away with how good it is. Super detailed, bright, great color. It might be $6k but the impression it gave me was that it was worth every single penny. I had never (and still haven’t) used another evf that was that good. If I had the money right now, I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

Probably a better investment than cameras, as long as Canon doesn't hose you in the future by changing the connector and output so your $6k EVF keeps working with new cameras you might buy. No SDI in would make me cautious. SDI in let's you use it on any camera, proprietary makes it only useful on current Canons but what about in a generation or two? Gratical takes batteries but works GREAT, looks great and can be used on almost any camera and it costs a third as much. Tough choice. Gratical Eye is great if you use cams with D-Tap, no separate batteries to change, just a cable.

Thanks for the insight Tim. That's what I was hoping. I don't mind paying for it as I really miss having a good EVF in the right position. Hopefully Canon stick with the connector for their future cams so it has a good lifespan.

@ Puredirfting - Yes you're right about a third party evf offering more options. I actually own the Gratical Eye which everyone seems to love, but I hate it! It could just be my eyes, but I can never see clearly through its optics and it constantly steams up. I've accepted that certain bits of gear don't suit everyone ergonomically.

If anyone in the UK wants a Gratical Eye at a nice DVXUser discount let me know.

I've had a look through the EVF-V70, on the C700, it's really nice. Definitely better overall than the Graticals, which overall, I think are pretty good too, interesting you've had fogging issues, I have the EVF Pro which has the same kind of anti-fog technology and it never fogs up on me, even shooting on cold mornings on a boat. If I could afford the EVF-V70, I'd buy it. If you can, you should. But I would be really frustrated if Canon left me stranded with a new EVF connection for the upcoming C300 MKIII, C400 or whatever other Canon comes out on a few years. And if I decide to jump ship to a competitor, I bet I will be able to get maybe $1,000.00 for it used in a camera package?

I have the original Gratical HD on my original C300 and I have fogging issues, as well.

I'm on a market for an EVF, and I guessed V70 would be great, but how good is the Gratical compared to the internal C200 EVF ? Does all the models have the same OLED screen ? I need it to be as precise as possible for checking colors and exposure, is it possible to calibrate it ?
