C300: EVF Pictures

Anyone have this in the Toronto/Ontario region? Would like to test it out.

I originally planned on using the Deity Mira Loup with the LCD on the C300 but, I'm not sure I can do that anymore. :/

When I have my lens and mattebox attached, there isn't enough room for the LCD to be placed in the spot it needs to be to use it properly as an EVF.
When the monitor is flipped upside down I have the most room, but because of the buttons and the XLR ports sticking out to the right, they are just touching the back of the mattebox and the top of my lens.
If I had smaller lenses attached (length wise) or even a larger lens (width wise) it will be impossible to use it.

The only possible configuration I can come up with is if the buttons were to be facing towards the subject and the LCD was flipped upside down.
It would work for the most part, but the buttons are on the opposite side now, so it becomes pointless.

Does anyone have an EVF, whether it would be the Deity Mira or any other EVF and could post some pictures?
I'd like to see what would work for me and what wouldn't.

*This is would be for a shoulder mount.

I tried the Deity when I first got my C300 and the image was good, but it was a horrible set-up. I returned it after a few days. You need a real VF. I'm on my iPad so I can't post any pics, but when I have it in the Redrock Ultracage I use the Alphatron on a Solid Camera EVF set-up mounted on 15mm rails. It's about as close as you're going to get to an ENG VF set-up on a C300.

I'm going to try the deity on my setup, a couple mates are using it quite successfully.

I'm also selling my alphatron, I'll email you details and pics.

Not looking at purchasing anything now. Im trying to see what EVF/setup works with you guys and what doesnt.
From there id have to run some tests and then decide. But its not anytime soon.
Id like to see some pictures of rigs with EVFs

We just received our Diety Mira loupe today. Works pretty well, but needs to be offset more to the left in under slung mode, using our Genustech top handle and top mount rod. It offsets it by an inch, then using a 15mm rod to cold shoe adapter, lets me locate it fore and aft on a 15mm rod. Seems to be a good location for our Arri hand held rig. Only issue I've found is the diopter is not powerful enough for my eyes, but the loupe can be used with glasses. I think it's a keeper!

Looks good.
How long is the loupe from the front of the LCD to where your eye sits?
Would like to figure out how far forward the LCD needs to go on my shoulder mount setup. Hopefully the eye piece is short and the LCD can be mounted further back than expecting. This would help with short lenses and prevent it from touching the front of the Mattebox.

With long lenses like the one you have pictured, I would not have a problem with this loupe. But my lenses are short and it seems Id have problems. :/

Michael, the loupe is 4" long. I have tested with my Arri hand held rig and GL Optics 11-16, AllStar Cine 50mm, both very small lenses, but did not attach a matte box.

Issues encountered with further testing are; Genus top handle viewfinder support mount gets in the way of sliding loupe back on top handle rod, have to remove VF support lock down lever; with LCD in under slung mode, LCD and loupe can't be tilted up, no different than using LCD without loupe; ocular diameter, magnification size and LCD I've means that wearing glasses, it's hard to get eye close enough to see all of the frame in one glance; with loupe mount attached to LCD, without loupe, LCD won't close completely into stored position.

I would say that an aftermarket EVF would offer more positioning flexibility, but would require power and signal cable and would be unlikely to offer more resolution. My biggest issue is having to wear glasses due to lack of diopter strength. YMMV.

Thanks. And yeah it seems like it would. I hope there is a way to use the cameras power instead of an additional external power source for the EVF's though. Not being as high quality sucks too. Nothing is as good. The only ones that are probably as good if not better are like Arri or Sony ones but I dont thing you can buy/use them on this camera anyways. Plus its $$$$$$

Yes, the Alpha IS more than the Diety, BUT it's also a complete stand-alone VF, where-as the Diety is just a loupe that attaches to the Canon LCD on the "Pod", as I call it.

You will have to provide external power or use a little Sony type battery to power the Alpha and use the SDI or HDMI out of the camera to feed it signal, but it is so much more versatile because you can adjust it pretty much where you need it, like a real VF. The only thing I really don't like is the power cable, because it sticks straight down out of it.

Let's see if I can post some quick cell phone pics of it on my C300. It's not fully set-up and dressed out, I just slapped it on to give you an idea of how it would be on the camera.

*Well, it doesn't look like it's letting me post the pics. Is there a trick to posting pics from your computer that aren't hosted somewhere on-line?

When you click "Insert Image", you should be able to choose "From Computer" and upload them to the site, then add them to the thread.

Thanks, groveChuck. That's what I was doing, but it isn't working for me. I tried several times and finally noticed that after it said they were uploaded, there was a red dot next to each file and it said they were the wrong file type. They are two jpeg's and less than 200k each.
