EventDV Mag Reports 40,000 Preorders

Just read it in the latest issues.

Reported it in an editorial about standards conflicts ala VHS/BetaMax, DVD - R/DVD +R, and now all the flavors of HD, HDV, DVCProHD, etc.

I don't know if that is national or international.

But that seems like a lot of preorders for the HVX200

And people say there won't be a lot of people dumping their DVX's. Yeah right. If there's 40,000 pre-orders (with more to come), it'll only take a small fraction of that group to dump their DVX's for there to be some pretty good bargains in the coming months on used DVX's. I personally can't wait to snatch one up. Heh!

If there are 40,000 preorders, that's about 0.3billion $. That would be impressive and I will explain myself:

The HVX belongs to a part of AVC Networks according to the Matsusita 2005 report. This includes and is not limited to:

Plasma, LCD and CRT TVs, DVD players/
recorders, VCRs, camcorders, digital cameras,
compact disc (CD), Mini Disc (MD) and SD
players, other personal and home audio equipment,
AV and computer product devices, broadcast- and
business-use AV equipment and systems, PCs,
optical disc drives, SD Memory Cards, copiers,
printers, telephones, cellular phones, facsimile
equipment, car AVC equipment, communications
network-related equipment, other information and
communications equipment and systems, etc.

This part sells about 4billion yen each year, which is about 35billion $. What is the probablility that preorders of a single camcorder that is not even a consumer one, can cover 1% of the total sales within a few months? What about 2006? This camera would sell (lets estimate) about 200,000 pieces if we take into account parts of the world in which we can't get the camera at this time. And that would be 5% of the total sales. We all know this group makes hundends (even thousands) of products, a lot more appealing to corporations, your girlfriend or kids and these products can sell a lot more than a single prosumer camcorder.

40,000 is not very probable if my calculator is functioning properly:)

Wow, 40,000 . . . can that be right? Did the DVX do anywhere near that upon release?
I sure hope Panny is running three shifts over there!
I want my HVX!!

Dear David,

Please advise the issue and page of Event DV Magazine where you read this.

There is no way that there are 40, 000 "pre-orders" for the HVX200. If this was an estimate of how many they might sell over the next couple years - maybe.
