EVA1: EVA1 4k variable frame rate 10 bit?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but if you shoot 4k 30P and use variable frame rate mode to shoot 60fps slow motion is it in 10 bit? I know that 4k 60P is only 8 bit - which came as a bit of a shock, considering the 3 year old and similarly-priced Sony FS7 has 10 bit everything. Is this a limit of SD cards?

I also don't understand this, maybe it's because more pixels are being processed for the down conversion.

I do wish we could VFR in 4K 10-bit even to a certain extent. Mitch, any chance we could get 4K 10-bit 422 VFR @ 30fps and 36fps? Even just that subtle addition can be beauty for many things and imbdue a subtle sense of slow motion that looks very nice.

There are only a handful of cameras in the world that shoot 4K/60p let alone @10-bit internally, so it's still a rather "new" feature believe it or not.

The FS7 was simply ahead of its time for the price (along with Blackmagic).

For me it's the bare minimum any serious camcorder needs these days. The bigger boys are doing 120fps at 4k. If the GH5 can do 4k 60fps in 8 bit then a camera like the EVA1 needs to top that by some margin. Just my thoughts and for my requirements, others may vary of course. At the moment I see absolutely zero reason not to buy an FS7 - it is cheaper, has EVF loupe, higher bit rate codec, 10 bit all the way, 180fps in full frame or cropped, proven track record. I'd love a Panasonic to rule the world again...but it's going to have to really work at it.

4K/120p is offered by barely anyone (besides RED)...the FS5 via Shogun Inferno and URSA 4K Version 2 (via dual-card mode RAW recording) come to mind for less than $10K. The RED Raven body is $9K but not functional without additional accessories putting the price over that number...and it shoots it @18:1, which isn't ideal, but still looks nice.

Everything else is thousands of dollars more.

Even though I wouldn't buy an FS7 today, I'm with you...IMO (and no offense to anyone), the C200 and EVA1 are fairly overpriced for what they offer in 2017/18. Both are great cameras and offer amazing features, but the asking price is too high.

EVA-1 resolves more detail than anything in it's class by a long shot (if that matters to you).

The size/weight is significantly less than FS7 (if that matters to you).

I do wish they could edge a bit more from 4K VFR, only because size/weight is so important, less than 10-bit 422 is untennable for most pro work (with the exception a few shots here and there as needed), and the camera's main selling points are size/weight/resolved detail.

But there's still great reasons feature-set wise that it brings to the table, just depends on whatcha need/want.

This is a data processing issue. In order to shoot VFR at 4K60p, you will need to be in the recording mode that captures 8-bit 420. If your system frequency is set to 29.97, then 30p is the highest available VFR.
