Barry, it's about time Apple got some sample PAL MXF files too...

Im sure Apple are "taking care of things", they have the new FCP comming out, the universal one, they might just include pal support in that. That gives people more incentive to buy it. Apple are good at alianating the people with last years gadgets and technology.

As for that

As for that footage, nice, saw a double decker bus the other day, was a tourist one. Kinda odd considering dubai was never realy a traditional london bus kinda place, or has any history with them. Mabe people from london would like seeing a forengn country on their public transport, or not...

Well we got three possible scenarios:

A. Apple will support the 720/50p format in FCP 5.1 (Universal) update.
B. Apple Will keep this feature for the major update announced at NAB, which usually ships in early June.
C. Apple will alienate us Eupeans and support will come much later (Remember JVC HDV pro 720/25p?)

My bet (and hope) is scenario A. The 1080/50i codec came right after the HDX-400e announcement so this could hopefully happen again.
C seems highly unlikely (I hope) but Apples close ties with Panasonic seems to concentrate on the US market. Some people are still waiting for a 25P option in the Varicam framerate converter...

If it is a market for Apple or Panasonic we wil have support, I am sure we get some help from Apple in FCP, hopefully in the next two months. Anders, How is Panasonic doing in Denmark with broadcast and film? How big?

Apple have just dispatched my FCP universal upgrade apparently...watch this space!

Hi Skip,
This is great news. Did you get an email to say it had shipped today? Also are you in the UK? Thanks,

Thanks
Mark

Isn't it amazing that Apple are shipping the product and nobody can ask them directly does FCP support the 720 50P format for PAL. You have to wait to open the box !!!

Another thing. I recently bought FCP Studio and I should get a 50 $ crossgrade but does that come with all the manuals, disks etc or can it be a download?

Thanks for answering Skip

Hi Terence,

I can only speak from my experience (in the UK) in saying that the crossgrade will certainly come with the disks as it requires that you mail in your old ones. I wouldn't expect it would come with too much new documentation though.

Well thats the speediest shipping I have ever seen from Apple - my upgrade shipped out yesterday (I imagine from Ireland) and has just showed up at my office in London.

Am I right in thinking we're waiting to hear if FCP supports PAL HVX files?

I only hear mention of 720/50P what about 720/25P am i being thick?

I've been giving SERIOUS thought about going to the darkside, knowing I can use a powerbook to offload to and THEN edit on is very appealing.
