anybody know of a good european website to order p2 cards from? I cant seem to find any locally...

Based on the weak $ it's currently much cheaper to order in the US. I bought all my P2 cards in the US (B&H). Straightforward and quick - no problems at all.

jjb,

didnt you have to pay for customs though? i had previously ordered from the US some software and had to pay customs when it arrived here. I was considering B&H also.

No customs but VAT and approx. $40 for shipping (but Switzerland is not a member of the EU - don't know your laws). P2 cards are identical all over the world. For other products like bags or a crane I had to pay a moderate customs.

I guess you need to pay VAT in greece...in germany they charge you 19% on what you get from whereever..and they are very picky ión it of course....i bought a 8GB used one from a memeber here once, fortunatly he wrote a 100 US for value, so i didnt have to pay much vat...but still they charged...otherwise the shipper wount be allowed to hand you the box....!

I would suggest to travel to NY, depending how many cards you need...make sure there is plenty available at B&H for example(not sure how the availability will be in the first month of 32GB..) and get them straight from the shop..!

Euro is so strong right now, and you get a extra trip to NY...if you can combine this...!

Otherwise order in Germany, might be cheaper than in Greece...not sure about it..!
Good Luck..!

yeah its 19% here also.. im not worried about the 19% as much as the customs.. they slap an extra charge from customs if u order something from abroad. Anyway.. im going to have to do a few calculations i guess and see what ends up cheaper. i found the 16gb card here for 900.. thats without VAT. Anyway i might give B&H a try.

The price for a 16GB card in Germany is 725,- € plus VAT (at least here in Hamburg). So even with VAT 19% and shipping, it is significantly cheaper to buy at B+H. You save more than 100,- € per card.
Prices on professional equipment in Europe are always ridiculously higher than anywhere else. Very agravating politics!

VAT within EU

VAT within EU

I bought my 16 GB card in Germany as well, same price. This is how it works within the EU: you get an invoice without VAT but with your company's VAT number on it so you pay the tax part in your own country (for me here in The Netherlands).
Of course, if you invest enough through your business, i.o.w. if you spent more VAT then you earn it, you'll get that VAT money back at the end of your financial year. Works. There's no tax refunds from anything you buy from the US, you pay the full tax included price and yes sometimes a fee at customs on top of it.
Still, prices are often so much lower for the same products in the US... and more choice. Big market with one language and one currency. The EU is far from that.

yeah the vat is the same here..same system. I'm trying at the moment to find a good priced one here in europe. B&H in the US has a great price.. but the customs will be a good 200 more or less..

Really? Have you asked customs? On the taric code page, which should be the same for all EU, electronic circuit storage devices are labeled free of charge. I might be misreading it and I have no personal experience, but I plan to buy 32GB-P2s and was going to buy overseas, so I looked it up on the german customs page.

Hey JitCam,
shouldn't be that bad for 900 $ if you exclude VAT, may be you can pay 5% as import duties plus VAT.
I bough from B&H and I was quite happy (apart from the story to fax credit card, ID etc... a bit too much for an online service, but you know them...).
I can suggest you ADCOM in Italy, they are very nice and they have a huge catalog of accessories and more. Check them out! www.adcom.it (you must rregister to see some reserved prices).

See you!

JitCam the Import tax is always the same in the EU.
It depends what gets shipped. We here pay 20% VAT and then a import tax.
It is sometimes 3 percent, sometimes 20%.
The tax is usually higher for "machinery", but cheap for stuff like lenses or in this case a memory stick. I guess it will be around the 5% mark. You can call your customs office and ask what they charge for a memory stick.
