eSATA option available on the new 27" iMac

I'd be interested to hear how that actually works. It's not an option from Apple. It's a hack from OWC that, I'm sure, voids warranty coverage from Apple (though OWC claims that they offer their own version of "Apple Care").

But again, I'd love to hear from actual users how well it works with FCS.

Should be interesting.

All it does is route the extra SATA connector to a convenient external port.

Should be the same as an eSATA connector.

EXACTLY.

I have the late 2009 27" Quad-Core iMac and I'm thinking about removing my superdrive and using that SATA port for an external eSATA (DIY). I don't really need a superdrive anymore, I just bought an external Blu-Ray burner.

This can be done? I like this idea a lot more as you can find those Macs for cheaper + I use an external drive as well. Please post links or any info regarding this process, thank you

I really don't see why not, OWC just uses an available port. People are already removing the superdrive and installing SSD's, giving them 2 internal HD's = 1 SSD for OS and a 1 or 2 TB HD for everything else. The only problem I can think of is internally routing the wiring maybe?

There are YouTube links to DIY replace the superdrive, I haven't seen any for eSATA (it was just my bright idea to do it myself).
