erasing P2 after download

How are you guys erasing P2 cards after downloading on a Mac Powerbook?
If I drag the contents into the trash, then when I return the P2 card to the HVX it needs to be re-intialized.
That's a step I would rather not have to do since it requires stopping recording, switching into playback mode and going into the menu's .
Big Pain in the Butt.
Am I missing something obvious or is there another way?
Software solutions - P2 log or P2 Genie?

Probably have to use a software solution you have listed to Format back to a Blank P2 format. Its just erasing that gets you a blank P2, it has to be formatted back to the P2 format.

I havnt found this a hassle to go to play back mode and format the Card, but some people do, i cannot verify that P2 Log or P2 Genie will do this, but i am pretty sure they can.

Man i was no help huh? :(

First, I unlock the text file. Then I erase all the content of the P2. Before eject the card I empty the trash and it work perfectly when I insert the card in the camera: ready to record.

I spend to be helpful

I use P2 Genie, works like a charm.
If it's really important stuff I'll open the copied P2 files on my hard drive with p2 Log before I erase it with P2 Genie.
P2 Genie will erase and eject your P2 card and it's ready to put back in the camera and start shooting.

P2 Genie is looking good to me and the price is right.
What does P2log offer in addition?

P2Log is primarily a Mac viewer. You can instantly see all your clips, annotate them, delete unwanted ones, and save back into P2 volume or export to FCP QT format. Also has ability to program the HVX200 SD cards.

I formatted a card in the camera, popped it in my Powerbook then copied the empty Contents folder to my desktop. When I offload a card I do the same as Subframe but after emptying the trash, I copy the fresh Contents folder back onto the card before I put it back in the camera. End result is the same as if you've formatted it in camera but without the stress of the operator having to do it while trying to shoot - and without the risk of formatting the wrong card!

Josh,
So let me see if I get this.
You end up with this empty Contents folder sitting on your desktop, and every time you download a P2 card, you then empty it in the trash (holding down option) and finally copy that empty Contents folder onto theP2 card again.
What's happening with that Lastclip text file. Are you trashing that as well?

I was a little unclear what subframe was doing with that file also.
It sounds like he does what I do (which doesn't work). Maybe I'm not exactly clear what he's doing. Maybe its the order of trashing things.
Well I'll try this stuff but P2 genie is pretty cheap.

P2 log also sounds very useful.
Any problems with either software?

Yeah, an empty, formatted P2 card is a fresh card with a folder named Contents sitting on it. The camera creates and updates the Lastclip.txt file when you start shooting clips.
So, after copying a full card off to my PowerBook and trashing the contents of the card and emptying the trash ( important step or else the camera will still think the card is full even if you can't see any clips on it ) I copy the Contents folder I prepared earlier back on and she's good to go.
