Depends on the scene. Like in Wages of Sin when we did that blue look for Rodrego's place. Everyone loved it. This scene and the scene when Victor is brought back to their compound initially will probably have that natural look. The outside scenes at night will probably all be natural. They look too good to touch. I may do something with that opener though (it's outside too but I think it could use a little something). That touch of cyan would look good for the scenes with Nightevil and Ashen.

By the way, we got our first backer today. $15. I don't know if it's someone we know or not but it's cool to see people already supporting us. Thanks. Check us out at http://kck.st/clghfq if you haven't already. You can check out some of our prop builds if you haven't already.

Great shoot last night. I literally prayed that we wouldn't have any problems from the cops because Thursday the place we were shooting was full of police. But the same officer that moved us along from our primary location Thursday locked the location down for us Friday. LOL. While we had no issues from the cop that one alley became very popular last night. I almost lost it one time. It was funny because Thursday he saw us a different time and basically made the point that people would freak out because we had a guy in a mask and a woman with a whip. I casually mentioned the neighborhood we were in (Clark and Belmont: a place simply known for weird stuff). He laughed and told us how long we'd be. We gave him an estimate and he let us be. Friday he was the first to see us. He responded to a call of "Five black guys in an alley fighting". This is funny because it was mostly white females. Myself and my friend Crystal (black female) were the only black people there. The other people were all white or Asian. We laughed about it. The officer told them to put him on the detail for that area and we were cop free all night, but for some reason that alley became very popular that night. (It was Friday night). It was so much going on I almost lost it, but we got it done.

The fun of stealing locations! lol

I just don't understand stealing locations at all. While it works out a lot of the time, it's really disrespectful to your cast and crew in terms of valuing their time (especially when they are working for little) to steal locations when you can get kicked out at the drop of a hat.

Yeah, it's definitely something that can prove to be a major stick in acquiring the footage you need. We weren't stealing a location on our feature, but we were using a friends apartment and had lights outside of the window, which caused the grumpy neighbor upstairs to call the landlord who then came and chewed my head off for being there. It was definitely not an awesome experience, but we came out alive and finished up the night... then the next morning.

On one hand you have to get what you have to get, so you just do what you can with what you have. On the other hand, you're right, it's definitely going to cost everyone's time and work, and may throw a rain cloud over the entire shoot. Choose your battles wisely, I'd say... and at least let the soldiers know they might die.

True, but fact of the matter is a permit cost $25...BUT to get that permit you need a 1 mill insurance bond. Which many times cost more than the film's budget. Also, to pay the police to do what this officer did for us for free would cost a few hundred bucks. You'd pay like you were shooting the Transformers. What happened was I wanted to shoot under the CTA tracks. Apparently that's a no no. We tried on Thursday and were chased away by a cop. We went to an alley (alleys...our trusted location for fights). We met several cops who really didn't care as long as we were quiet and cause no problem. I also had several incredibly hot chicks on the set which doesn't hurt. We bump into the first cop again and had the aforementioned conversation.

To understand what this officer did for us Friday, basically if a call came into the station about us. He would basically intercept it. We had the alley free from about 7:00pm until 2:00am. The public was a bit of a problem, but even they cooperated for the most part. Rachel, the girl who played Siren, was one of my fight choreographers. She choreographed an incredible fight involving all kinds of things including a knife throw. (The old trick you used to see in the Kung-Fu films). That did draw a crowd and some applause, but they were all pretty respectful save for one guy who tried to talk to our actresses and I had to tell him to leave. Not to mention it was one of those nights when all the martial artist were there including our make up artist Savion. LOL. (He's that cool vamp with the curly hair on the poster).

But normally I don't steal locations. I ask permission and am usually granted such. In Chicago alley's are considered public. We have the right to use them as long as we don't affect anyone else. Ironically we shot in the alley, by The Alley, which is a store here in Chicago that sales all kinds of "alternative" goods and clothing.

This is one of the main reasons why I believe in "Stealing Locations with Green Screen" as outlined in the 24 diary. If you get to the location, get a few wides and then a few more closes. Then film the backgrounds. Go to a "controlled location" (your backyard maybe) you can sit out there all day on greenscreen, get what you want and comp back in. We've done this several times and so far it has been great.

This way you're only on location for maybe an hour or less, our average is 45 minutes. So by the time somebody calls the cops. We're packing up to leave. LOL

Yes, I'm starting to learn the joy of green screen myself. Also we just got our third backer.

Thanks. Riti, one of the actresses from "Wages of Sin" kicked in $50 as our fourth backer.

Wow! Been shooting as much as possible. A lot of special effects work needs to be done. I should be done with this in the next few months. I signed on a couple of new actresses to play characters from the comic. I have an idea for a sequel already. But here's a few caps for you guys. And please check out our Kickstarter as we only have a short amount of time. I may do a new KS video, but I'm not so sure now considering the positive feedback I've gotten on this one..."but will it Blend"?

Looking good man! We've just finished all our principle filming so we are heavily into Maya and After Effects at the moment. One thing you've sparked in me is I am going to do a night short. Everything we do is during the day, and given we work full time, man, there is a lot of night we could be using! :)

Looks good Nate, lots of good stuff going on here and all over DVX! 2010 was good for DVX-ers.
