FEATURE: Epitaph: Bread and Salt Feature film

hey nate,
in your posters, the vampires face is perfectly white, and smooth. How did you do that with make up? or was it done in editing?
btw, it's looking good. I really like the locations
on the other hand, i dont really like the costume.

That's actually a peice of stock photography I got from iStockPhoto. It's a pretty popular photo, but yes, that can be done with make up. You'd need a good make up artist and I believe there are brands of stage make up that won't sweat off.

As for the costume, Victor really isn't a superhero, he is but he isn't, he's a normal guy whose had powers from birth and he's not about to stitch up a superhero suit and fight crime and sure as heck doesn't want to fight vampires, demons or other worldly creatures. He wants to be left alone to live a normal life. The costume is functional and to some degree not even meant to be cool. It's basically clothes.

On the flipside, it's what he wears in the comics and fans are going to want to see it represented that way. Even though this isn't a Marvel or DC book, when everything comes together fans will want to see what's in the book be in the movie and vice-versa. Think about all mud slung because of the small "S" on Superman's chest in the movie or the changing of Wonder Woman's costume (just a few weeks ago) in the book. Locke's costume is a blue trench coat, over a black hoodie and black pants (usually jeans) or black jeans and a hooded jacket. The costume that may show up in the sequel is the black pants and motorcycle jacket, with a hoodie underneath, but the only time that's even seen is in the ads.

I thought the chopper looked fine in CG. If you wanted to use a model, maybe you just add the blades later. Although, I think some keyers could do the whole model just fine. I know for example that the keyer in Vegas can key through glass and keep the glass there. Blades shouldn't be much different.

And I think there's a lot of pluggins in AE that would help too. I don't think the blades would be as much problem as people may think. I think the chopper looked good too, but I was thinking it may have been easier to go with a physical object. I'm big into physical effects, even though I'll be using the computer a lot, I like some form of physical object to be involved.

Let me just say, Keylight in after effects is an AMAZING tool. Just use an oscillating fan and try keying with it. I think it handles partial transparent as well.

Read what you posted of the script. Looks good man! Should be epic!

Thanks. We have our casting etched out for Friday up at Columbia College here in the city. This should be awesome. A lot of people say they're coming. I also set up a video audition thing so people could do video auditions. This is the most people I got for any event I've ever done. LOL.

Yep, Keylight is the plugin I was referring to. I have CS three and Keylight is the bomb!

Just ordered a 1.8 G5 dual from eBay. It's a fixer upper. A friend of mine just threw away his old computer, but I stripped it of it's graphic card, harddrive and 2gigs of memory. I hooked up on a 500gig SATA Harddrive. What I love is this G5 is only missing the memory and a harddrive, basically all the stuff I have. It does have a graphics card. The only worry is the logic board. If that's fine I'm ready to go. If not I'll have to talk Apple into replacing it as there was an extended warranty on these.

The other drive I popped into a MGB (Metal Gear Box) housing. It's only sixty gigs, but that will hold test footage until I get a 1TB drive. Then I can start working on my F/X shots.

Hehe, well I will tell you this. I sold my G5 dual 1.8Ghz Mac when I bought a mac mini with the intel cores and it was faster than the G5. I kid you not, I tested it with audio programs, video rendering, 3D rendering. Just something to think about on your next upgrade.

Honestly, G5 = $150, Intel Mac Mini = $399. That's what it came down to. Keep in mind I'm upgrading from a G4 so for me a dual 1.8 could easily be 400 - 600 or more times faster than what I'm used to considering a G5 single core was about that going up against a dual G4. By the end of the year I may do a Mac-Mini.

One of the things that sold me is I tinker with my computer. My G4 has four drives, two burners and six firewire ports, once I get a mini I'm kind of stuck with it as is aside from minor upgrades. I plan to add an extra burner and 2 1TB SATA drives later in the year when shooting starts. I'm running Adobe AE, FCP Studio 2 and an old school Photoshop (which I may upgrade because our school has acad versions for teachers).

Our workflow is to transcode via Toast and then drop it into FCP. But I'm finding that I still have to render though going from AIC, (I tested it out at the Mac store on an Intel iMac) so one of my settings is probably wrong. I may see what Pro-Res is like.

It's in the facebook group. It's mainly for actors but Chris is a part of the group. I'll probably post at least 30 pages here. I just haven't gotten around to it.

Hey Nathyn, what does the keylight plug-in do??

Keylight basically helps pull the initial key then aids in getting rid of the green throw off after you've keyed. Check out Andrew Kramer's tutorial on it. Dude is a ridiculously awesome with this green screen stuff. You can get a DVD of all the tutorials. Don't freak out, because there's a long ad for the DVD before the tutorial. LOL. But Keylight's "pre-blur" with the clip white and clip black options are in themselves worth a look.

Okay, I'm gonna' check it out. I haven't been on the site in several months anyway, so I need to go and see what's happenin'!

Yeah, I have to agree as well, it's one of THE BEST tool I have used with green screens. It's the first thing I go to now since it handles if I have any green reflection off of shiny surfaces that I don't want the surface to get keyed out.

Okay guys, as stated, the first 32 pages are up. Go back to page one and you should see the first thirty-two pages of the script linked there. The script is still being hammered out in some places as we keep redrafting and fixing on it before next month when we start shooting. There may be some errors. If anything jumps out to you let me know and I'll fix it. Casting will be tomorrow and we have close to 40 people slated to come.

We did our casting friday and found some great actors. Several of them came in costume which was pretty sweet. I'll let everyone know whose in during the next two weeks. We also spoke with a DP and we may have some HDSLR action happening on that front. Our DP owns a Canon 5D Mark II and wants to use it to shoot the movie. We all know the image quality of the Mark II, so some of this will be shot on the 5d. I'm looking at some more reels too. I usually work with multiple DPs. They want to bring their own stuff too so that's cool as most of them have a lot better stuff than me.

Be sure to have a talk with a soundguy also....

And yes I will keep repeating this :2vrolijk_08::-Laugh(DBG)::-Dum(DBG)::-HeadPhones(D

Awesome. Not sure if they have any stabilizers, but I can speak from experience now, shooting on a stabilizer REALLY makes shooting with DSLRs so much easier (helps prevents jello).

Also, be careful for moire. Urban settings and textured clothing can be a nightmare is disguise!
