Epilogue - voilence, sex, drugs

Good work, came off feeling really British, in almost a Guy Ritchie sort of way- so you pulled that off nicely. I thought your strongest points were the dialogue- fun and seemed somewhat natural, and the still montages (every photo looked so crisp and not a single pixelated image in the lot, so cheers), i thought it was a great way to transition. My dislikes, and not to be rude at all but what i really disliked was your cinematography. Some of your pans where so jittered and shakey that i lost complete focus on what was going on in the story and payed attention to how terrible the camera movement was. Most of the shots were really bland and boring, not very well composed, and could have been so much more visually pleasing, especially to match up with your excellent story...

I most definetely don't want to end on a negative though, because i honestly thought the story was great- it was not a confusing mess in the least, it made perfect sense and i enjoyed it the entire way through. Hope to see more from you soon (just get a new DP haha).

As someone else mentioned the flipping table shot was amazing. How did you get such a smooth slow motion on this shot?

Like everyother post but so far Hemophelia's beein' all coy like.

Sorry... I'm not trying to be all coy-like.

The thing is the 'Behind Epilogue' thing that I did (and have not yet put up b/c of bandwidth issues) explains it a lot better than I could in this chat.

So instead of giving a poor explanation... I'm working on getting the rest of the video up. I'll post the moment I have it!

THIS MOVIE MADE ME WANT TO TAKE OFF MY PANTS!!!! Damn, its hot in here!!!
Oh God, I'm not funny!

But I like Lowel lights. Um, because of there portability and value for price.

I really liked the dialog in the movie.

What does he mean when Milo says.. "I shifted his sister?" Does that mean what I think that means or does it mean something else?

B

lol

that's cool, I was just joking, but would like to know as well.

Still want to know what's up in the car scene with the color correction, though. Only thing that looks not so great in an otherwise sharp looking fun little gem.

Color correction in the car scene...

Well frankly it was very tough. The scene was shot on all sorts of different days, with all sorts of lighting. When I saw some of the original footage I was just like "there's no WAY I'll be able to edit this stuff together". I think it's tolerable... but no it doesn't look great. I also think it's too 'warm'... had it just been a cooler bluish look I would've liked it more... but I was going for a bright-orange-glow-of-morning sorta thing.

Which apparently I didn't pull off. :P

holy **** was this weird. uh, what the hell was this about. your saving grace is that you have a guy named 'pickle' in the movie. that rules. however, people are being way too nice. this board is supposed to be used for constructive criticism, not for a pat on the back. And while this movie was amazingly stylish, the story was nonexistent. people don't give a **** about your style if you don't have a story around it. i have no idea what this was about. you have to make that clear in the final piece. i'm not saying it's not there. it's probably somewhere. and to you it likely makes complete sense. but to people who have just watched this for the first time, they'll probably think that it's about a shooting and two guys running away (i think to another country) and then talking... a lot. anyway, i think you have a lot of potential, cause some of those shots were way cool. but don't get carried away in the aesthetic part. make sure every shot has a purpose.

I understood this was an experiment in style and that content was a jumping off point but not the primary focus, and as such, more of an exercise in style.

I agree with you for the most part, but people have commented on the fact that there's not much story to follow and I think having said that, that most of us are blown away by the motion techniques and some of the other cool stuff.

Had we payed admission to see this as a professional, finished thing, then it would not hold up due to the content -- which certainly has high moments and entertainment value, and a guy named pickle, but not a lot of clear story value and FX in service of said vague story.

I don't think anyone's really contending otherwise. But again, having said that, he did some pretty cool **** that I know I for one can't do and am impressed by both technically and aesthetically.

Of course the next step is using all that talent, every single stroke, in service of great content, i.e., to tell the story, not just presented along side mariginal content, without bringing out or serving the story.

Still though, fun too watch, and lots of cool eye candy.

Reminded me of Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I like the that British touch.

nice.

lol, I really liked that. It was pretty foggy on what was actually happening, but you end up creating your own scenario, so it works out. Pickle was great! nice job!

I got a torrent up of my disc image for the movie which, aside from having a full-quality version of the movie, also has the 'Behind Epilogue' making-of featurette. Although, I suppose I shouldn't call it a featurette b/c it's twice as long as the movie itself. :P

It's easily as insulting as the movie-- probably more so in fact (so those who weren't too keen on the humor in the movie should maybe avoid it). But it does talk about the specifics of the effects and some of the other issues people have asked about.

The torrent is in Nero disc-image format, which if you don't have Nero or any other burning software compatible with it, you can mount with the free tool Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc) or something like it.

I'm still working on getting a net-compressed version of 'Behind Epilogue', but I'm having some software issues so that'll have to wait.

You can download the .torrent file from:
http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3368723
And no this is not some sort of pirate copy....just cause it's on a site called 'pirate bay'. I just needed a free torrent site to track/host my very legally distributable .torrent file.

I think you have a great story there that's simply incomplete. You can go in soooo many directions with this thing......

I'm not a Mac user, so I'm not sure about everything here, but there's certainly lots of Mac bit torrent clients out there:
http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=torrent&os=macosx&button.x=0&button.y=0

As for what app you could use to burn/mount the Nero DVD image once you got it... I'm not so sure. Any Mac users experienced with that? Otherwise just hold tight and I'll get a net-compressed version of 'Behind Epilogue' up as soon as I get damn Premiere to stop crashing.

(that's where the Mac users chuckle to themselves...."heheheheh.... I may have compatibility issues now and then, but at least my editor doesn't crap-out like that sucker Hemophilia!")

It must just be me, because nobody else has commented on this, but the dialog seemed scratchy sounding, like it was breaking up here and there. The music in the piece sounded fine though. What was with the less is more approach to your female lead? You didn't even show her face once. You could've at least shown us her boobs if you insisted on hiding her face anyways! Should've worked a little harder for that R rating (just kidding). Overall I really enjoyed your short. It wasn't too difficult to glean out the story - two small time dealers swindle the big drug lord, with a little extra twist of having the girl seem like she ran off with the goods, instead she was in on it all along. The visual effects were awesome (except for the gunfire - already well documented here) The music worked really well and I liked the still montages. Had the dialog not been so scratchy and on par with the high production value of the rest of the piece this thing would've really been on the money. Great job!

great, very entertaining!
loved the editing and motion graphics and the sound design was superb to make you feel like they got on a place and went to RIO... and the briefcase witht he money motion gfx were great as well..

problems now... the cinematography was not too good... and its seems very little to no color correction was done. But the story, acting, editing, and motion graphics had me smiling the whole way through this film.

Those were great characters... sort of reminded me of snatch (I mean that as a compliment! I loved that film)

Very cool. Just got around to watching this and I really liked the visual style. As others have said , the motion graphics were great and carried the movie. Dialog was sometimes hard to hear, but still it was awesome. Keep it up, I can't wait to see what you do next. Beginning was also very cool, did you send this to any festivals?
