GH3 EOSHD reviews the pre-production firmware GH3

I just tried shooting DCloud's comments on a Blackmagic Cinema Camera and it still looks like ugly biased bullshit.

Should I send it back and get a Red One?

For all the facts I got wrong (yes, I am human) there are 10 I got right, and another 10 opinions which you misread as fact due to English not being your first language. How about you start reading my blog like the filmmaker's informed opinion it is meant to be... Your grudge is personal and pointless. If you don't like my opinions, you are welcome to read ones elsewhere you do agree with. You have an axe to grind don't you?
Wow. Im not attacking you and here you are taking my constructive criticism like a *****.

Maybe english isnt YOUR first language. Apparently being rude and pompous is what youre really good at. And no, being english or whatever your nationality, is not an excuse for being impolite. If you actually take your time to read my post, its nowhere near what it is that youre saying. (yes im still right on my criticism. You ASSUME english isnt my first language, i dont read your blog AND i have a personal grudge with you.)

And here i was trying to persuade myself to stop disliking you but you prove time and again youre an arrogant attention whore.

Let's have a look at some of dcloud's 'constructive critisism' from the last few weeks...

"Dont spew out s*%t..."
"
I dont like andrew"
"
Nah. Andrew reid is worst. Fake news, sensationalism, attention whore."
"
Eoshd? Meh."
"
Not eoshd again."
"
I really hate EOSHD. andrew reid is a real prick"

If this is constructive then a demolition derby is a bodywork repair shop.

Hahaha did you just read through my history? Talk about keeping a grudge.
Yes i did post those and those arent grudges. Im stating my honest opinion and feelings toward your site's unprofessionalism. Also, backed up by FACTS.

re: constructive criticism,
I'm referring to my recent post. If youre digging up posts from several weeks ago, and using that as your basis, thats just out of context. You're Hilarious. Its obvious whos keeping a grudge here

I am glad you're one of my critics. Genuinely.

The BMCC and Red are not really direct competitors for the GH3. Panasonic are not just aiming for filmmakers here though they are doing a very good job of that side, they are also aiming for the stills market dominated by Canon and Nikon. I think the BMCC and $4000 Red come up a lot in discussion but once people get down to the practical realities of owning them, they will maybe reconsider. The GH3 is 10x more practical for most people.

Moire seems to be a big concern but I am hand on heart honestly not that concerned. It isn't the usual kind of moire. Had a lot of cameras with moire - 60D, 600D, NEX 5N, NEX 7, OM-D E-M5, 5D Mark II and the GH3 has less moire than all of them.

My main basis of dislike is all on my recent post. If you take it to heart and apply it, you would have less critics.
I have nothing Personal against you. Im sure youre a good natured person.

re: gh3, im getting one. Bmc as well. Perfect handy size. Tired of lugging big cams around.

If only Canon shooters hated moire this much they could have all swapped to the GH2

The difference is Canon shooters simply don't know any better. We GH2 users are a spoiled bunch when to comes to image quality. We know what can be had for less than $1000.

Anybody is going to base their purchase on a badly shot couple of takes? Come on guys you are way smarter than that. Look at the difference between Phlip Blooms piece, shot and edited by real pros, and those takes from EOSHD obviously shot with a camera a photo show. Please, please, please you should know the difference of who to pay attention to by now.

GH3 continued...

GH3 continued...

I am going to add my voice to this discussion. I am not a pro, but I love shooting stills and video and I have used the GH2 since it came out for shooting video for my website and for thousands of stills/videos when my wife and I travel. There are probably a lot of people here who are following the developments on the GH3 who are a lot like me, not earning money with their camera but intensely interested in the camera and obsessed hobbyists who use the camera for personal and modest business use.

I had the GH1 and sold it and ordered the GH2 before it came out. I invested in lenses and simply, I love the panasonic look and for my purposes, both of those cameras were perfect and the GH2 had advances that I really wanted to get to use out in my life. I even started a GH2 "test" group on Vimeo that has over a thousand videos and almost 400 members as a place we could all share what we were doing with that amazing little camera.

I have all ready done what I did before - I sold my GH2 right here on dvxuser and I have ordered the GH3. Personally, after looking at every GH3 video that exists so far on the web and reading every early review, I am very excited to get the new camera in my hands in a few weeks and I am confident, that once again, for my purposes and with the great panasonic lenses I have, the camera will be perfect. Yes, I don't earn my living shooting stills or video, but I don't understand why so many people seem to get such pleasure from criticizing a camera that is not even released yet and magnifying issues that might not be issues in reality. As much as anyone has observed moire in posted videos, there is an equal number of videos where none is present all. In these brief encounters with the camera and early software, isn't it actually possible that there are factors in the shooting that have not shown the camera in its best light as of yet.

At the same time, I think everyone would have to admit that Phil Blooms short fim was thrilling to watch. How could anyone attack his efforts here. For someone like me, knowing that I will never be in a situation where I can shoot at that level of videography, how exciting to see the camera I will soon own be employed by a team of talented filmmakers and used to shoot under those kind of conditions. Is there really anyone who does not find that exciting? To think of what can be done with these little cameras compared to what would have been necessary to achieve these kinds of results just a few years back, it's absolutely awesome!

Also, I think that everyone who has bothered to post videos online and to offer early reviews have done everyone here a great service and I certainly appreciate all of these gifts, I doubt if any of these people are getting much in return financially for the generous contribution of their time and energy. I often wonder why I hear these people being attacked on this site rather than a simple thank you. Really, the GH3 is going to be just fine, certainly for my modest videos and stills and my hunch is, it will probably be just fine for most of the people who are shooting with DSLR type cameras. But equally important, at least to me, is how we treat each other here in this community because the camera is an extension not only of our hands and our eyes but, if we strive for some sort of artistic expression in any form in our lives, of our hearts. And though it is easy for people to write things here in a forum, things people would probably never utter if they were sitting face to face with the people they attack, it is important to come to this community with a shared sense of respect. Does this sound sentimental? Sorry, but after all the arguing here, I am reminded of the urgency that we all need to support each other in our shared interests rather than working against each other. It would not only be more useful and interesting, but much more enjoyable as well.

Wow! Awesome post. As though I had written it myself :)
Further, One test I studied makes the OMD still look WAY better resolution, scale and color-wise than the GH3.
I was turned down for the Panasonic Position (Professional Market Division) and frankly, I have no regrets.
I have a feeling that Panasonic is dropping one ball after another in a very tight race to breakthrough the Barrier between Pro-sumer and diminutive pro outfit.
Who knows who will come up with the mythical small form-factor camera with all the goodies we want at below $15K.
None of the players seems to have covered every requirement.

The evidence is mounting that the GH3 video uses line skipping, which inevitably results in moire and a significant loss of measured resolution. That's not something that can be fixed in firmware, by adding a stronger OLPF, or by providing a super-high bitrate codec. It's the sad consequence of marketing-style decision making. They took the one feature that made the GH1 and GH2 a success, and removed it from the GH3 so they could compete against the OM-D in stills (similar sensor) and in video (better codec). But by making the GH3 more similar to the OM-D, they lost the one market advantage that the GH1/2 had versus all other still cameras, including those with larger sensors. Now someone looking for the best stills will pick a camera with a larger sensor (APS-C or full frame). Someone looking for good stills in a small form factor will pick the OM-D for the 5-axis IBIS or the RX100 for best sensor/size ratio. Someone looking for the best video will pick a camcorder. And someone looking for a stills camera with the best video will be presented with a list of very similar choices and no clear winner.

It is first and foremost, a stills camera. Which is why they put a lighter OLPF on it. They aren't going to build something that directly competes with, and beats, their professional lines of cameras. People shouldn't expect them too either.

Just hope that the next camera they make, whether it is m4/3 or not, that it is on par with at least the C100.

Caballero's comment wasn't attacking Philip, rather having a shot at me for failing to shoot a $1m promo video at Photokina with a crew, crane, catering and chevrolet in 2 days. Maybe next time huh?

(For the record I've not seen any Caballero directed cinematography yet. If you're going to throw stones at other filmmakers, best to back it up with something more solid than words on a forum)

Agree!

Andrew, you seem to have a successful blog. Why are you even talking with critics one on one? At this stage it just seems pointless.
Best wishes, and thanks for your contributions. Keep learning and sharing with those of us that are interested in new things and couldn't give a **** about anything else these guys are fixated on.

Bulletin to critics "protecting" everyone: we've got functional bull$#!t detectors just like other adults. Thanks for your valiant help, but please stop distracting this forum with snarky trash talk that seems completely irrelevant. We'll determine what's useful info for ourselves- your help is unrequested and invasive. Thanks--

I was 120% backing Philip Bloom's work! To me he is the guy to listen to if you want expert knowledge.

Nor do I have to show anything to be able to realize how valuable or not other so called expert's work is. Nowadays anybody that buys a domain name and some space in the internet can call himself/herself an expert. Wow!

And this is what happens when you start an EOSHD discussion on DVXuser (and vimeo, for that matter)

I read EOSHD occasionally for fun, but I would never base a purchase on what he says...or basically any blog for that matter. (Except Sir Bloom. He's a god :) )
