GH4 EOSHD Pro color for GH4

why would anyone give that video a thumbs down?? The net is so stupid...

How about that annoying audio track? That cricket sounds like it's perched on the cameras microphone! Lay a simple music track, and all is well with the world.

Don't worry about the audio. I chucked on whatever I had on the comp (though I still maintain it's better than the standard muzak you get on videos these days). I actually don't mind the skin tones you get with this LUT. I think it does a bit to fix the dreadful colors of the GH4, which is a tall order to start with.

I'd love to see a few more A/B or split screen samples with a caucasian face using standard or portrait all zeros (as anyone can recreate that easily) and then using this new LUT... downloadable vs. youtube would be nice as well.

The LUT is designed to work with the standard picture profile with a couple of variations, using all zeros won't be getting the best out of the system. But I can certainly do a test with Caucasian skin.

The GH4 V-Log footage with the Panny LUT has been the most accurate film-like footage I've every shot with the GH4! Excellent skin tones, though shooting in 10-bit is required.

Can a LUT make auto white balancing? EOSHD PRO COLOR recommends AWB in camera. Most serious users use manual WB.

Wow. That's the worst possible choice actually, since AWB shifts during recording if the scene colour changes in any way.

No, a LUT is not auto white balancing, so I'm not sure how that would work.

Cheers,

Paul :)

With all due respect to Andrew Reid, this seems to be another of his "experiments" that are long on hyperbole and short on reason. This is a stylistic LUT that you may or may not like - but it is no "better" than any other.

He implies it does things it can't, and he recommends settings that are clearly silly (auto wb.)

EDIT: I just watched his video. He literally claims that a post LUT somehow increases the dynamic range of a camera. I'm tempted to buy it just so I can post charts what BS that is.

It's certainly more rederer. ;-)

The Canon look is quite pleasing, especially for skin tones. If you like it, great, this LUT gets you close very quickly. That alone is worth $15 to many. Why didn't he just stop there instead of claiming it is magic?
