GH4 Eos Pro Color / gh4

Haven't tried it but I did look at it a few days ago. It is interesting but I am curious how much science went behind this LUT and settings vs the Leeming LUT. Couple of things I noticed from reading the forum.

1. The profile suggested is standard which is an odd move. Andrew also suggests auto white balance which is even more odd to me for a professional level LUT. This makes me feel as if this is better suited for run&gun type projects.
2. The increase in dynamic range is a bit misleading because the LUT uses the standard profile on the GH4. Standard has a lower dynamic range to begin with since it is a baked in normal view profile. So the LUT increasing the dynamic range may not be any more than what cine-D itself does. V-log is a much better choice if one is looking for an increase in dynamic range so don't be fooled that this LUT performs some sort of V-log level DR magic.
3. Color wise there may more vibrant colors starting with the standard profile because that is exactly what a standard type profile is designed to do. Give more accurate color information vs Cine-D which tries to force a somewhat flatter profile. Flat will usually mean slightly less color that you have to bring back later in post. So the LUT again may not be performing any real magic here vs what the Standard profile itself is doing in terms of more color information to grade with.
4. Seems more like a look LUT more than a correction LUT and designed just to mimic a specific look like the hundreds of other LUTs out there. If one is obsessed with a certain Canon color look it may be worth it but I wouldn't say it is a must for a professional look.

Playing with it now. Using it in FCPX. Not a hundred percent sold on what it does to the color, but it does some interesting things with the highlights. It doesn't really recover more information (which is impossible), but I think it stretches and remaps the highlights to give a more pleasing roll off, and takes the digital edge off. The skin tones are good. Overall it gives a slight rose tint to the image, but that can be corrected out.
