Envision & RebeccaD Present "Berlin"

Rebecca's vocal performance!!

Rebecca's vocal performance!!

Rebecca, I hope I didn't put any undue pressure on you with that comment to help with the list ... only as you have time!

Here's the mix that Herman has put together with Rebecca's vocal performance we recorded last week: www.eefilm.com/berlin/music/vocals/berlin_v3.mp3

He has two other takes as well (what you hear above is one take), that he may decide to mix in from, so there could be some slight changes going forward ... unsure as of yet.

We're sharing this now vs. waiting for the film to be seen in the fest, largely because the song may not make the DVXuser cut at all. As the script stands, the complete cut should come in around 10+ minutes. That said, we also already know where we can enter the film & other parts to cut that will still keep the integrity of the story ... just likely won't be able to feature the song or much of the actual cabaret envinronment. :violin:

Hope you enjoy the song! She's a tough critic on herself, but I think she sounds phenomenal.

Norm was nice enough to share this with me when I asked him about his experience recording Rebecca for my film. Thanks for that, and I think the performance is a winner.

If you play it backwards it says that someone is Satan! Rebecca looks all sweet and innocent and stuff...I had no idea she went to these lengths for that talent...

Holy sh-t, Rebecca! Your voice and singing sounds f-----g GREAT! Great, sexy rasp, too! I really think that composition and that rendition really shows off your talent! And Norm, that composer--WOW! Very, very, very impressive music production there! You have a terrific team on board with you, Norm!

Very nice, Rebecca is multi-talented too. Very good.
The voice style is kind of R&B though. Maybe such a mix could be a hit.

Thanks, Ralph ... yeah, I think I've said it before ... my knack is surrounding myself with those more talented than myself ... which even translates all the way down to the PA's!

Steve, she's extremely diverse ... definitely (I) wanted that raspy/sexy R&B sound you're referring to. Well, I didn't think it was that style, but how ever she delivered it was perfect for what I was envisioning. :)

Wow! I love the vocal quality of Rebecca's voice! Such a great expression conveyed. I love it. And Herman is just so wonderful at composing. What a great track!

If someone that heard the song ( like I did ) and caught this style, then it's a mission accomplished. Gongratulations again. It definetely has this style you were aiming.

Cool! I really liked that song. great job with the music and the vocals.

Gonna listen to it again now :)

Nice, sweet song, Becca. You need to ask for a raise, or at least get paid, get paid a lot.

Wow Rebecca. Just wow.

I have only one question, though:

With all that talent, why are you hanging out with Norm?

Thanks everyone! The band I sing with does a few songs from this era, but I do also really enjoy R & B, so there is definitely that influence in the song. Thanks for the feedback, though, I appreciate it.

Trust me, she's probably getting wise to it ... I won't be too surprised if she's out of my reach for the next one.

Trust me, after speaking with some other filmmakers recently, I actually feel pretty bad having folks do these films pro-bono .... the only way I can justify it, I guess, is that I offer for folks to do the roles vs. asking (so it's up to them if they'd like to do it or not, knowing all details up front), and the fact that I always let them know this is their film as well ... not just mine. So in that sense, they're working for themselves vs. working for someone else, or just on someone else's project for free. At least, that's what I tell myself so I can sleep better at night.

Norm, don't feel bad at all. Take this from one of your pro bono crew...you are paying all the incidentals, crafty, etc. for an internet competition. In fact, I think it's stupid of anyone to pay anyone for these competitions. In fact, I think Jarred should make it a rule that no one can get paid (this would be in line with the 48 Hour Film Project rules). This is a short movie. The idea of indies demanding monies over a short film is ridiculous. Now if you asked everyone to work for free for Trinity River, that would be different entirely. But not for a short, I would turn down any money you would offer. I turned down money on several short films that I helped on. Short films are for fun and experience, features are for attempts at money.

Interesting thoughts on the pay/no pay issue. My casting notice only said, "Pay negotiable--there is pay." But, so far, none of the actresses I've met/shot have discussed money. The implicit agreement seems to be just a copy of the DVD. The only actress I do pay is Alejandra (pretty young bikini girl), simply because she has no desire to act, and lives pretty far away. No crew guys I know will work for free (or simply can't afford to turn down paying work, should it come up), so I pretty much have to crew the whole thing myself.

Herman and Rebecca, GREAT TRACK guys! Sounds amazing.

Thanks, J-Man :D

I'm looking forward to working on the score, and maybe incorporating some of it thematically into the score itself.

The song and Rebecca's rendition of it are simply kickass.
