Envision & RebeccaD Present "Berlin"

Lol, thanks guys (especially those who cared so much to try & help us get back up to a '5' ... sniff *wipes eyes*). :)

I hear you, Mark ... I probably DO have too much time ... shoot, just look at how many posts I have & you could figure that one out. I'd probably wager to say that most of us actually don't have too much time, but somehow find a way to squeeze DVXuser into it anyway ... call it the addiction.

As for the star thing, it was just quick math. We had 3 votes at 5 stars. Suddenly 4 votes at 4 stars. You take the 15 points, hypothetically add 1 more, and you get 16 .. divided by the 4 votes to average 4.0 ... proves someone voted a 1. I plan on doing up a show for Sesame Street using this very example, with a mean (or jealous) little puppet (not sure which one yet, but I'm leaning towards Bert) coming in and rating the Cookie Monster's thread just one cookie ...

Anywayyyyyyyyy, moving on ....

I finally had a chance to review Rebecca's notes/tweaks yesterday. I discovered that aside from being a naturally talented actress (and working hard on the producing side with me), she's actually got a pretty good knack for writing. I was really impressed with much of what she had changed/tweaked.

I found quite the gem with her!

I'm home watching two sick boys today, so I'll have plenty of time to finish up the script changes & get it out to Rebecca for review, and then off to a few other folks as well.

Or someone is just a jealous dork and acts like a child and rates a thread a 1 or 0 because they are frustrated that their film or thread isn't getting much attention.

You can't really rate a thread "zero" stars.

And I guess nobody got my 80's band joke.

I agree with some that the thread rating thing is kind of dumb. I know that it's the board software and not DVXUser. I personally don't pay attention to thread "ratings" in deciding which threads to read or not. I usually look at either the title of the thread or the name of the person who started it.

John, I knew you were joking ... I just didn't have anything witty & clever to say back first thing in the morning, lol. Yeah, I'd prefer there not be ratings either (in most cases), as the really important threads usually stay near the top, become stickies, or are pretty easy to find with a quick topical/word search. But since they are there & available, it was more of a principle thing to ask/call the person out to simply explain why they felt the way they did.

Ideally, when the films are available for viewing & judging, people are just as open in the threads then as well ... which this last few fests most have been really great at expressing their thoughts/feelings, both good and bad. It's been helpful & eye opening to know what works, what doesn't, etc. The main reason for these fests; growth as a filmmaker & inspiration to get out there & make things happen.

I got your joke and i wasn't directing my comment at you.

No, no, I knew you weren't. I was just correcting your statement. I mean, what do you want from me, I'm a business analyst by day.

You said it, brother!

John, I got your joke. Didn't you see my rating of it???

Ooops! EDIT.... I forgot to post it! Here you go...

John's Joke : ***** ( "*" = a star!)

PS - I loved Berlin back in the 80's!

:embarasse Oh geez, I TOTALL did not get his joke. How lame is that? I knew he was joking, just didn't get the Berlin/80's band tie-in.

Thanks, Ted, for spoon feeding that one to me, lol.

huh? I was talking about Berlin.... in the 80's.... when they had that giant wall. Pretty cool.

No, no.... I'm kidding. I was never a fan of the wall. (please don't get started!)

I am totally talking about the band that Norm is too young to remember! :)

Hey Norm,

just spent a little time reading this thread, you gotta earn it to post on this one. How is production going?

I am really looking forward to your film, first Berlin is one of my favorite cities. I spent a crazy week there a couple of years ago. But beyond that, and correct me if I'm wrong, this is a period piece. A lot at stake back then (really the entire 20th century when you think about it) and a great baseline for Drama. good luck with it.

Ted, I am NOT that young, lol. I think it was in Jr. High (okay, maybe 6th grade? Can't recall), that they were famous for "99 Red Balloons". In fact, weren't they pretty much a 1-hit-wonder? That's the only song I can remember by them. Around the time of TOP GUN as well ... in fact, maybe why they became famous ... they had a song in there? Okay, fine! I am young, lol.

Bosindy, thanks! I've been to Germany, but not in over 16 years (before the curtain came down), and never made it to Berlin. Was with my HS symphonic band ... we were invited to the World Music Festival in Vienna Austria ... landed in Frankfurt, hit a few other towns on the way to Vienna. Some cool memories as we were over their traveling & performing for 2 weeks ... and the high schoolers were going nuts because you could drink beer there at just age 14!!

Finished the rewrite of BERLIN last night (about 2am this morning). I'm going to review it one more time for further tweaks (couple of lines/moments I'm not thrilled about yet), and then will get a copy to Rebecca today to review. Looking forward to tonight as she, myself and our spouses hit a killer steak house for dinner in Portland. Going to have fun!
