Hey everyone, I have recently just returned from Haiti where I shot the pilot episode for my independent educational travel show aimed at helping the world. This is no boring show, im 22 and roughed it out.

I could use ALL of the DVX/HDSLR communities help to get it picked up. I need 50,000 hits in order to make that happen. (50,000 hits to the web page and its referring links)

I also want to hear everyone's opinion on the show, obviously it was shot guerrilla style. Please give me your honest feedback!

you can view it at http://www.explore22.com

if you enjoy it and think its informative, PLEASE pass it along to a friend as if it gets picked up I will be raising $12,000 for an orphanage in Nepal on the next episode where I will climb to MT. Everest Base camp on a 30 day run.

thanks so much, looking forward to hearing back and getting some feedback!

wsup Jordan. I really enjoyed this video. and how well it represented whats going on. nice work you're doing man.
how'd you do sound? sttraigght to cam? what did you use?

On a technical stand point i'd suggest a Fader ND and some sort of loupe viewfinder so u can avoid using high shutters to expose and also get steadier footage. maybe a gunstock type handheld device so you ( or camera op) will have 3 points of contact. one on the lens...viewfinder and holding the gunstock.

Hey, thanks jambredz :)

This was shot 100% straight camera, I had a Tascam Dr-100 however the SD card was lost on location.

Haiti was a hard place to shoot and those other suggestions definitely would have come in handy. I wanted to shoot on our RED but was glad we didn't bring it, customs would have had fun with that one.

Thanks for the support!

as much as i'm for RED..i dont think that would have been a good cam for this at all. u need speedy setups and a small profile. neither of which is RED's strong point. I have a DIY shouldermount and i get really good footage with that and my zfinder jr. However for travel i wouldnt want to carry my DIYshouldermount cuz that cant break down.... but there are many handy shoulder rigs out there that can break down for travel. If u want a cheaper solution to the loupe though here's one... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180533470371&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

the fader nd will give u decent results on anything less than 85mm.

Good stuff, JordyF. You and everyone involved did a great job, not only shooting it, but also tackling a tough situation that is a story worth telling.

You could probably do with a stabilizer like a shoulder mount or glidecam to help steady shots. Also, I say you had a still camera head on your tripod. A decent fluid head would help as well.

But the main point is that you got it done with what you had and that's all the matters. Looking forward to the next one.

Best,
Andy

agreed about a RED, not good for a zippy production in an unknown setting. I now own both the Redrockmicro cinebundle and the ispy rig, so will definitely be using that next time, and hopefully if the pilot goes through I will have budget for a full time boom/sound guy. Next time around however, the 7D will be my personal handheld (like it was on this episode) and a 5D will be the main cam for my operator.

About to look into a fader! thanks for the tips.

Thanks Andy, yeah.. didnt help that we brought a portable manfrotto still pod lol

very nice project! I like the idea of explore22! The guerilla style video is ok I had shakier stuff broadcast ....what pinched me was that in the commentary the word "amazing" sticks out a bit too much....but its all good.

agreed. I guess part of the problem is im not a scholar with an "amazing" education. lol the word amazing and the word LIKE both bothered me once reviewing the footage. Definitely something i have to work on for the next episode. I was wondering if anyone would end up noticing that :)

note to self: better adjectives needed.

Nope, never been, I can only imagine that it will be quite the trip.

Depending on where you go, your going to love it. What's the duration if your trip? I was in both port au prince (crazy and at time overwhelming) and Jacmel. (awesome and a real place to make progress)

Either way I'm sure your experience will be positive!
