GH2 Embarrassing discovery

After more than a year with the GH2... I finally realized that I've been pulling focus on an evf diopter setting that was blurry in the middle and just slightly in-focus on the edges. For whatever god forsaken reason, I had never bothered with that little "wheel" on the EVF... I feel like a moron now. The GH2 EVF is OUT STANDING. At least that's how I feel right now; it's sharp as a tack and I can now pull focus with the skill of a samurai who's wielded the blade his entire life.

Seriously... I can't believe how much my skill pulling focus just increased by 10x within a matter of minutes. It's funny how this camera still surprises me.

I always find such discoveries exciting, after coming to terms with feeling like an fool. You can attribute such discoveries as a free hardware upgrade. We should more often overlook little hardware functions for discovery later on.

Go well.

When I first got the camera I was most disappointed at the poor image quality through the EVF. Eventually found out why! And even more recently after using the camera in a rain shower- the EVF fogged up. For the rest of the day I was cursing the camera as it despite the apparent disappearance of the moisture in the VF I was still getting a blurred view. Of course I had accidently shifted the diopter setting!

I had never actually used the EV before because it never looked right to me before. Now I know why. Count me as one of those fools that never bothered to find out what that little wheel did. Atleast I have become acustom to using the LCD instead. However, you are exactly right I swore off the EV because of my user error in not adjusting it properly.

Well, the reality is adjusting the diopter setting should be about one of the first things to do with any digital cam. Stills or video. Digital camera 101.

Don't feel bad, one of the GH1s I had almost went back because the EVF was so far out !!! Just before I called up and started to ***** I remembered something about setting something called a diopter. Wasn't sure what that little wheel did, flipped it a bit and HOLY CRAP, camera was just fine !!!! :love4:

I discovered this on my camera and set it up but when I borrowed a friends I shot with it for a few hours before this point occured to me. I do prefer the EVF over the LCD in a lot of situations, especially outdoors. However the 5" Sony LCD is such a great addition with it's 2 focus enhancement options and size.. that I use it all the time.

cheers
