Eight Bits of Evil

I'm not sure if people even know about this one. I saw the thread you started here, and thought "Never heard of it". So, after some searching, I've found it at www.dvxuser.com/scifest

It's a SMALL .WVM file that folks can download from there, if anyone's interested, but I've not seen it among the main list of .wmv's. I've not looked in the .zip folders I've downloaded yet, because I think most people (like myself) have already downloaded what they thought were all the films from a few days ago.

That said, I watched the film ... it's really really tough to critique the films that are SUPPOSED to be campy, because you never know how much production value the film maker(s) intended for it in the first place. As such, this one had very little production value. Some of the framing (most of it actually) was nice, as well as some of the angles & editing. However acting, script, and VFX were highly lacking ... which may have been on purpose, or may not have ... tough to tell with this type of film (campy, gag, etc.).

Great job on at least making one, and I'm not sorry I watched it, which is saying something. Look forward to seeing growth in the next project from you.

LOL, very cute.

Had some nice moments. Very tongue in cheek.

Overall I liked it. It was fun to watch. I agree with Norm that its hard to tell whats meant to look campy and whats not. I think it was just a nice fun piece. It made me laugh and that's saying something.

The compression wasn't so great and the blood effect at the end was way off, even for camp!

Nice job! Thanks for a pleasant diversion! Keep up the good work!

Tighter editing would have helped that story/action move along smoother.

Good concept.

Framing could have been better on some of your longer shots...alot of room from the to of the head to the top of frame, not so in your tighter shots.

Liked your music choices alot, very apropriate for the film, better than most shorts in this fest.

Hi DeepThought,

I agree with THX... the editing could have been tighter.

It was silly, but a cute idea.

Campy, but I expect you meant it that way... FX were cheesie, but I also expect you meant them to be. Loved the scream... made me laugh.

The music was a good fit... seemed very retro-video-game.

You framing could have been a little better... and your lighting/color was really just kind of there... a little boring, flat.

I totally didn't understand why you ended it the way you did... and why he shot himself after the great battle and victory ;) He concurred the retro-meanies and it didn't fit for him to be offing himself.

Thanks for sharing your film... I think you had a fun idea and ran with it!

The version i have has some really terrible interlacing problems and I didnt finish watching. Is there a better version out?

Yeah, sorry about that it was my first time encoding a WMV on my Mac, so the quality sucked, i've got another version in quicktime if you want to view it.

That would be great.

Yeah, I couldn't understand the shooting at the end, i mean, come on........ why would you shoot yourself for killing escaped animations?????????? Although I did like the idea up until that point.
Too many of these films have a Russian Roulette kinda ending and the majority of them for no reason.
