effects in final cut pro

Hey guys,

So I edit in final cut pro and I pretty much have the basics down as far as rough cutting, some color correcting and transitions. What I would like to learn is to add some cool effects that I see on a lot of videos.

What I'm wanting to know is do most people just use final cut pro for effects? Or do they use plugins or other software?

I tried searching youtube for tutorials but they seem to have the same things over and over.
 
Depends on the effects. Some basic effects can be easily achieved in FCP using the factory video filters and transitions. Others can be achieved using third-party plug-ins. Some cost money, others like Luca's and Too Much Too Soon are free.

For more complex effects, Motion or After Effects would be recommended.

But honestly, "cool effects that I see on a lot of videos" is a pretty wide open subject so there's no way to give you a specific answer here.
 
Yea I realized it was a wide subject after i posted it. I will have to post up some videos of what effects I am talking about when I get home.
