Effects across multiple clips or source material?

So, lets say I have a source clip for a green screen vid.
I drop it in the timeline, put the chroma key effect on, and then cut it into 40 segments and place a bunch of other stuff randomly throughout the video... photos, slides, transitions, etc.
(Yes, I could also subclip it first and then place them in the timeline...)

Later, I realize that I need to tweak the chroma key settings... on ALL 40 segments...
So I go to FX mode from one segment, make the tweak, and save an FX template...

Do I have to literally shift-click on all 40 segments, avoiding all the other photos, etc. and double click on the effects template I created?
Or is there a way to select all the segments from a specific source clip?
Or even put the FX directly on the source?

It just seems like clicking on all those segments is silly...
Point is: Is there an easy way to put the same FX on LOTS of segments in a timeline, without hand selecting them all?

I guess what I'm really getting at is this:
Is there a way to automatically select all the segments that come from one source clip?
If I have 40 segments with other stuff between them, the lasso's of no use and shift clicking on 40 clips seems like a hassle that's likely to leave one or two clips "forgotten"... plus it's just a big pain in the "buns".

I supposed I could use the "clip color" settings to at least make them visible, but still... 40 shift-clicks? Really?
 
Avid DS will do source effects.
MC & Symphony, nope.
Autodesk Smoke, probably.
FCP, Premiere or Vegas, don't know.
