T2i Effective noise reduction for external mic

Hey, I heard the 550D has extra noise due to auto gain on the external mic input.

I'm using a Rode video mic & I really don't want to use an external recorder and would like to know if anyone found a good noise reduction plugin for this purpose or a work around other than recording on a different device.

there are various 'solutions' that involve defeating the AGC by blasting a fixed tone into one channel or or both and filtering it out in post

beachtek boxes, juicedlink boxes and Ipod/Iphone app hacks

none allow monitoring of what you are actually recording
