cool effects it would be greatly appreciated...thanks again

Well Sarlacc that really depends on the look your going for...

You're right. If I wanted a film loose in the gate, bad registration shake ala Fight Club, then I would look into post effects.

But almost anything looks more natural if done in camera. Why leave it up to computers and post if you can get the shot right there in camera?

This is soley preference of course. With all these new programs you can do almost everything in post.

I just dont think its as fun or creative that way.

I'd have to say that the screen shake effect is completely overdone of late.

Take a look at the new, "edgy" HGTV stuff.

At times, you need some seasick pills.

We're spending thousands on tripods and fluid heads, and we see the "shake, rattle, and roll" stuff so overdone today.

Give me a tripod -- and not screen shake.

Obviously, this is my personal opinion. But it seems a little too much and a little too often lately

I agree its overdone, but i think it would be nice to know how to do it. Clients definatly want something that everyone else is doing, i can imagine the conversation now.

"Can you make the camera go like that one video, you know the cool one where the screen shakes all crazy like?"

sigh* "...yea"

"Awesome! " turns to co client " you hear that! thats gunna be great! just like that other video!"

:)

you know what i mean, i wanna know how to do it in post as well, that one link to a tutorial works, but the link inside that site doesnt.

Sarlacc,
I totally agree with you- if its possible to do it in camera - by all means in all most every situation it will be superior , BUT sometimes the footage is already shot, and you need a means of re-appropriation.
-and the camera shake thing has been Waaay overdone just like any other effect (especially when as radical as a camera shake) USE in moderation! or it looses its luster.

I agree.

Camera Shake is the new Speed Ramp...

It's pretty straight forward to add camera shake in your editor. Just use a transform with motion blur turned on. Scale the image about 10% so you don't have to paint in the missing edges. Give it an irregular pan/tilt back and fourth, up and down with keyframes about 2 frames apart. Usually more up/down than left right. A bit of roll or Z-rotate can be nice - but very little - about 1 degree. Experiment until it looks good. I did about 100 like that on War of the Worlds. In film you often have extra around the edges so you don't hae to blow it up.
cheers,
Sam

In-camera shake is one way to do it and is certainly cheap. But what happens if the client doesn't like it? Or it turns out you shake it at slightly the wrong time? It would be a real pain to try to stabilize it again!

I agree with others here the effect is way overused. Imagine what it would take to vibrate your eyes so you couldn't see clearly and you've got a reason for camera shake.

Camera shake is becoming like using 100 fonts per page in desktop publishing.

As to seeing it, take a look at virtually every drama series after 8 pm, and the new stuff on HGTV.
