GH4 EF to M43 Speedbooster - anyone has the same problem with focus peaking?

Hi there,

We just received our speedbooster.

Without the speedbooster (just a normal EF to M43 converter) focus peaking (blue lines around sharp edges) works fine.

With the speedbooster, focus peaking doesn't seem to work?

Anybody else got this problem?

Greets,

I had a problem with focus peaking until I was advised here to turn in-camera sharpening up from -5 to -2. Now it works a lot better.

In low light or low contrast situations, the focus peaking on the Gh4 doesn't work very well. I've also noticed that when the depth-of-field is really shallow, it doesn't work well either. So the Speedbooster may not work as well because it's making the DOF shallower. However, in full daylight or in a high contrast scene, you should have no problems.

I've found peaking works better on my m43 to Nikon speedbooster when set to Peak L mode.
It's a bit counter intuitive but like you said: Peak L (low?) is with higher sensitivity (you've got thicker lines), Peak H (high) is with lower sensitivity (you get more sand like focus peaking) which I find a lot harder to notice on a screen sometimes. I'm sticking with L, I guess it works similar no matter the lens.

Do you have the camera switched to manual focus?

Hah, so stupid :) I normally use MF lenses (Nikkor with a Canon convertor), and I thought it would be the same with AF Canon lenses through the Speedbooster. Your tip made me check out the manual, and I found that the switch on the back was set to AF. Now it shows up just perfectly. Thanks a million!

Yep, the behavior is a bit strange considering that AF doesn't actually work with the adapter, but focus peaking will only work when the GH4 (or lens) is switched to manual focus.

Glad to hear you got it worked out :)
