Okay - now I am a bit confused here.

I have a PowerMac G5
FCP 6
HVX-200

Now, there is no Panasonic AVC-Intra for G5.

Whadda I do?

If I want to shot and edit in HD? DVCProHD.

My head is about to explode.

calm down man, it's all good...
first hvx does not shoot avc-intra, it shoots dvcpro hd which is awsome
just transfer your files from the p2 cad via camera and fw to a hard drive in your mac and then open fcp and log and transfer your p2 files start the magic :)

Why do you need Panasonic AVC-Intra to edit HVX200 footage in FCP 6 on a G5?

HVX200 shoots DVCProHD. You can edit it on a G4 laptop.

Okay - so I dont need AVC-Intra.

Great!

So, why did someone invent it ;)

Does it have some majick that makes the HVX-200 better than the Red ?

ha ha just joking.... everyone here that found an extra $100k would go with Red One.
or am I just projecting.

Is AVC-Intra related to MPEG 2?

DVCPRO HD is an 8-bit codec. AVCIntra is a 10-bit codec. That is the difference between 256 colors and thousands of colors.

DVCPRO HD is an anamporphic format...and 1080 is 1280x1080, not 1920x1080. AVCIntra is full raster 10-bit HD. MUCH sharper. The HVX-200 nor the HPX-170 do not have this codec ability. For that you need the full sized HPX-2000, 2600, 3000 and 3600 cameras.

$100k for a Red One? No...fully loaded you can have it for about $40,000. That is the revolution...cheap HD film camera.

AVCINTRA is an MPEG-4 based codec. XDCAM and HDV are MPEG-2 based codecs. AVCINTRA is superior in quality...by a lot.
