Editing with 7D

Alright so I am set on buying a 7D and will be soon ordering one (only a few hundred dollars to save YAY!)

Anyways I am wondering what the work flow is like on editing with the 7D and what steps do you need to take to export in HQ for sites like youtube and vimeo...

This is with final cut pro I'm assuming.

We'll what I've come to realize after atempting to edit the native .H264 files that you need a Proxy file. This is where Mpegstreamclip, or shake come in handy.

I begin with dumping all of the footage from my CF card into my MacPro via a Sandisk CF card reader. This does several things for me. It eliminates the need of unwanted Wear&Tear on my 7D, as well as allows me to fee up the Cam if need be.

After importing all of the footage, which I had placed into a Storage Folder onto my Archival HD I then begin the converting process.

I use MPEG, because It seem much more reliable than Compressor, which is a pain to use, but haven't yet tried shake, so your choice.

I link to the Archival HD via a Batch import in MPEG and do a convert to AppleProRes 422 (HQ) If your system is low on space go with the (LT) prores.

After converting then take that folder an you've got all of the footage ready to be improted into FinalCut.

Chop it up as you wish, mix it, and you're ready for final export.

I know there are many ways to do this, so i'll save the remaining parts of this for someone to answer like Barry, who is possibly best for maintaining the quality of footage, after the edit into the export process.

Thats just a quick How To begin the process, hope this helped.
