Editing P2 footage without a computer

I am wondering can one edit P2 footage without using a computer like Apple Mac and final cut.I shoot some event stuff and would love to be able to just roll of the cameras and just take what I need.I find using computers is painfully slow and I shoot 2-3 angles of weddings,Debs, concerts.
I'd love to be able to press play and record from 2 cameras into 1 recorder (nice and simple). Most of the events I shoot go for several hours and it eats up alot of harddrive especiallly when you multiply
that by 2-3.
I was thinking of hooking my 2 HVX's into a basic vision switcher and playing it directly to a Blu-Ray recorder but I'd say most of you would say thats a stupid idea.Any help there guys.

It can be done. It will be very expensive and unless you watch the footage several times before you will always be just behind the action. NLE programs were invented to make this process cheaper and more forgiving.

i dont know if the word is stupid or just very RISKY. i guess you could do that. but i wouldnt, UNLESS:
1. you have a battery backup on set for the recorder
2. you have redundant recorders in case one chokes
2. you are one bad-ass director. as if you make a bad edit, thats all youve got.

you might look into a newtek tricaster. but to do this well, aint cheap.

I assumed the op meant in post like A/B editing. It can be done live but for a wedding it would be a nightmare. I used to do this all the time fire dance recitals and still do for lectures and conferences. All sd as of now because hd is so expensive. Unless you go wireless with talkback for the camera ops doing a wedding live would be risky and any way you slice it very expensive. Not to mention no where near as good quality as even imovie.

Yeah I meant in post.I love how safe recording to P2 is,and after the event I was hoping there is something like a edit controller for the HVX's.(Remember the playback controls are under the handle, DUMB IDEA). In the old days I use to have 2 BVU-SP players and I would record and edit
to a recorder. From there I would make copies to S/VHS and VHS.Then I had 2 MS4 S/VHS camera's that could be contolled by a edit controller and titler.

I have a Mac Book pro with final cut 6 which my daughter edits from. But for myself who is not savy in NLE.I was hoping to do a basic cut edit for the long events filming.I usually shoot one camera
roaming, one camera wide safety, and one on audience response.

Don't get me wrong I'm shooting a pilot later in the year and I am waiting on the HPX250's I know very well that it must be edited with frame accurate software and effects, dissolves, greenscreen etc.So thats final cut for sure.

Um wow that's like buying two ferraris and then putting pedals on them instead of buying gas... If you find computers 'painfully slow' you'll find crash linear editing with two P2 cameras excruciatingly painfully slowest. Get more RAM or an assistant or a faster computer. Trust me, it's you... :)
