I'm in big troubble.

I'm shooting a musicvideo in 2 days 've ordered a hvx200 with mini 35 etc. I'm going to edit the video as well. Today my mac pro crashed. Now my only option is to borrow a friends 17 powerbook g4 1.67mhz power pc, 1,5gb DDR2 SDRAM.

I'm guessing i will be ablo to transfear the clips from the p2cards on set without much problem. But is the g4 much 2 slow for editing. Since this is a crisis, i can deal with it being slow as lopng as its workable.

Im a real noob at this since this is my first gig as a dp and first time with hvx200 and first time with hd.

will 720p be preferable to 1080p? Anything that makes this work.

If worst come to worst i'll have to cancel the hvx200 and shoot it on a pd150(uuhuhu)

Do you think it's worth it to still have the hvx200 with 35mm and shoot on dv?

A lot of questions but i would really appriciate any suggestions, insights or solutions.

This is a nobudget shot and my first gig. so i would really like the result to be something worth looking at.

That's exactly the same as my Powerbook. I use it for simple edits, no problem. Just go gentle on the effects.

i use an older 1.0ghz 17" powerbook for field edits from the hvx and it works just fine. rendering and effects will be hell, but for general edits its cake!

and what specifically do you mean when you say your mac pro "crashed" - are you sure its not something you can fix with an afternoons re-install?

I actually use a Powerbook g4 1.67 with 1.5gb ram and it has worked better than I expected editing footage from the HVX.

I would suggest an external firewire drive to use for your project (footage/files/etc), that way you'll be good to go on your mac pro once that is up again.

As the other post said, just go easy on the effects and you should be good.

One other thing I would suggest is http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=SEARCH&Ntt=antec+cooler&N=0&Dx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&D=antec+cooler&Ntk=All&product_code=306230&Pn=NoteBook_Cooler It's a fan for your notebook to keep it cool. My powerbook does heat up quite a bit when I'm editing on it.

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67 1gb RAM. I have tried to play HD quicktimes and other 720p clips from the HVX that I've got from the HVX screenshots/footage forum and it won't even play back smoothly in real time.

So while you could edit the footage on that setup, how could it play back in real time? Mine doesn't. . .Do you need FCP 5.1 or something?

I'm a little confused. . .

I had that last of the powerbook G4 1.67 with 1.5GB ram, I was able to playback large slabs of 720p video no problem with quickTime pro, but it choked playing back 1080p.

For straight playback (in quicktime) it should not matter what version of FCP you are using. You could bump up the ram, that would help, ram is pretty cheap nowadays!
