I have a dell inspiron 6400, 2ghz duo core 1 gig 80 gigs 7200 RPM, and the hdv footage would play like normal DV footage and then it starts to lose frames... then it starts to bogg down. How do I get realtime preview for HDV?

any help would be appreciated. -ramon

premier pro 2 ( even thos the question wasnt for me :P Elton please give me a hand in the other thread about frame rates )

Vegas edits native m2t HDV. It shouldn't have an issue with stuttering previews.

I would think there's something not enabled in your preferences, hiro.

papa, download the canon update for adobe premiere pro here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3408

once it's installed properly (instructions are on the same page), click 'new project' and you should see a new subsection in the preset menu for canon hdv. choose the preset that corresponds to the framerate your video was shot with. worked for me.

apologies for further polluting your thread hiro. unfamiliar with vegas, but a good defrag might help. i do use cineform for premiere and it does make everything a whole lot easier.

its simple to load the pp2 plugin, have you done it yet?

Consider your video card... I came across this page recently and found it helpful:

http://www.videoguys.com/DIY-GPU.html
("If you are going to be working with the Cineform Aspect HD the FX540/560 or FX1500 is the way to go.")

I use Premiere, but my old ATI video card is a weakness. I'm going to switch to an nVidia card pretty soon. According to these guys, it will make a big difference because Adobe builds Premiere with nVidia products in mind. Using one of these beefy video cards should speed up render times, etc. because Premiere will utilize the GPU of the card.

You need a really good graphic card. In Premiere, go into Project Setting, select Playback and enable GPU acceleration. Even then you won't be able to preview on High setting with added effects.

I use Vegas 6 which is not as good at previewing the raw HDV, but can cope.

I've installed cineform connecthd and it all runs fine now. It isn't just an issue of being able to play the footage, but if you want to scrub back and forth and add filters etc. then I find Vegas 6 can't cope with the raw footage.

Vegas does not use graphics card to process anything. I have a fairly lagging system when it comes to my HDV clips primarily because of my CPU and Memory (P4 2.8ghz 1gig). Going to get a new system next month...

A possible work around is either building a dynamic RAM preview (if you have the memory). Select your loop region and go to Tools>Build dynamic RAM preview. Another work around is to pre-render the video Tools>Selectively Prerender Video...

These are on Vegas 7... Not sure about prior versions.

yea.. i'll just get cineform, i wonder if dvcproHD lags like hdv..

CineForm is an excellent codec. You would probably be much happier using it if HDV is indeed causing the lag on your system.

If I'm not mistaken, DVCPRO HD isn't a standard codec that ships with Vegas.

On the Mac, with at least a G5, it definitely doesn't lag.
