should run nicely. Im editing on an AMD phenom tripl3 core, 6gb of ram and an nvidia card (cant remember the name off the top of my head) and it runs flawlessly. you should have no problem....
thats just the 60 footage...i have the same thing when editing. right click on the program monitor (or where ever the footage is loaded) and change the quality. I noticed that when on auto quality it has artifacts when playing back but when exported, the artifacting will not show. as for the stuttering, its just that 60 is rough on the vid card...you may want to look into it....i got a new vid card and it now plays with no stuttering but the audio is a bit off no matter what i do. hope that helps.

My computer can handle all other formats from the HMC...i was under the assumption he wasnt shooting 60 because he hadnt said anything about it. I edit raw AVCHD files (all except 60) perfectly fine and yeah, i agree with you though...the transcoding process makes everything much more streamlined and easy.I don't understand how you say this and then your next post is about the problems with stuttering and audio being out of sync? I Have a stronger system than what you listed, and if I make any cuts and add transitions or I add any filters or effects, everything has to be rendered. Much easier for me in real world editing to transcode.
How smoothly should native AVCHD video run in Premier Pro CS4 4.2 with an i7, 8gb, 10000 RPM HDD, and GTX260 (1792mb) Video Card? Thanks!
Is this a problem your display settings in Premiere? The reason I ask is because I'm using a one year old off the shelf HP Core 2 Quad desktop with 4g of ram and a video card that's nothing like what you have and mine edits smoothly until I really start adding effects, and even then its manageable. I'm running Vegas Pro 8.1, but I would think that your computer would have no problems handling the raw footage. I'm not saying this at all to dog Premiere, I'd still be using it if my version would work in a 64 bit OS.
With my current laptop (3 yrs old), I must transcode. But with the desktop I only transcode those files that I want to work with in After Effects. The file sizes start to get awfully large when I transcode, even with Cineform.
You've got a CUDA-enabled NVIDIA graphics cards so download the latest CUDA driver from the NVIDIA home page (http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html) and try this:
