Ok i know for sure that regular 24p footage is 23.976 or whatever, but apparently 24PA is actually 24p? Can someone clear this up for me? I edit with sony vegas and I set my timeline to 23.976p and i shoot in 24pa so i'm not sure if I should be setting the timeline to 23.976 or 24?

In short, 24P (aka 24P Native/24PN) is recorded to tape at 29.97 to be edited and output as 29.97. The pulldown can be removed, but it's a pain.

24PA is recorded to tape at 29.97 with the intent that, upon capture, the pulldown will be removed and the true 24 progressive frames restored for editing on what's really a 23.976 time line.

Use the 24p DV timeline preset (widescreen or standard); the frame rate is 23.976.

Both 24p and 24pA are 23.976 recorded to tape in a 29.970 stream.

You're using Vegas, so you can use either 24p standard or 24pA, capture, drop either into a 24p-preset timeline, and Vegas will remove the pulldown -- either scheme -- automatically. It takes a little less processor to remove 24pA pulldown, so use that. But if you shoot 24p standard, you can still use it as 24p in Vegas just as easily.

as i mentioned earlier, i record in 24pA. I know that vegas removes pulldown automatically after you check the box in the options, but thanks anyway.

So i guess i'll just keep using 23.97p in vegas as my timeline
