Editing 24p or 30p?

So from what I understand, Canon cameras record 24p and 30p in a 60i wrapper... but what does that mean for editing?
I know I have to remove pulldown on all 24p footage to get it recognized as actual 24p footage.
30p is good to go right out of the camera, correct?
But how do I edit this stuff?
I'm using adobe premiere pro and I don't know if I should be editing all my video in a 60i timeline.. or editing 30p in a 30p timeline and 24p in a 24p timeline.
It's just that I've noticed when I drop a 30p video into a 30p timeline or a 24p video in a 24p timeline, a red bar appears over the video, showing that it needs to be rendered to display in real time... but if I drop these same clips into a 60i timeline, I don't have to render anything; no bar appears above the clips.

Gahhh.
I've been researching all day to figure out this stuff. It's so confusing how Canon cameras do this. I've been recording all my video in 60i just to avoid having to work out all these progressive issues but I'd really like to get into 30p and 24p to get the film look.

If anyone could sort this out for me, it'd be greaaatly appreciated.

Okay I think I figured it out actually..
In premiere pro after I import the 24p and 30p footage, if I right click it, hit 'interpret footage' and choose 'conform to: no fields (progressive)' it will work within the 24p and 30p timelines.

So is that what I should be doing?
