C100: Edge monitor.

I bought a C100 yesterday. Wow I love the form factor. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow night at a live music gig.

I was playing around with it when I came across the "edge monitor". I hadn't got to that part in the manual (yes I know) and I have to say I thought it must not be working. I had no idea what an edge monitor was. Three boxes and strange happenings along the bottom of the screen. I could tell there was some relationship between it all but it seemed weird. So then I researched what it was in the manual and online and discovered how it worked. So now I've tried it properly and I have to say I don't find it very useful. It just seems not very distinct and depending on the scene it can be downright useless. Easier to focus by the LCD and magnification.

Am I missing something? Do you find it useful? Are there certain circumstances it excels at and not others?

Thanks.

It's a focusing aid. Use the strip at the bottom of the screen, when the edges within the boxes are in focus, you'll see the data bars in the strip elongate. It's a bit less obtrusive than peaking for some.

Thanks for your response. I understand how it works I just don't find it very useful. But you say some people prefer it to peaking so I'll give it another chance. Maybe outside in sunlight it comes into its own?
