F3: Ebay Scam or Price Drop?

I've seen a few F3s go for around that from auctions here in the States that, from my cursory look at the listing, seemed legitimate.

Literally a steal if true.

I saw an F3 go for a bit less than that on the uk site too. It was tempting but i don't need one at the moment!

cheers
Paul

I've seen F3 bodies go for around that price, but not with all those accessories. Someone got lucky today.

I didn't notice the primes until I expanded the picture. Damn, no kidding. The seller only has 11 on feedback though. If legit, it might have been a mistake, otherwise, yeah, seems a bit too good to be true.

Their is no market....Its people that do not know how to price their used gear. Just because someone wants to lose money, doesn't mean they set the price for all.
Just like the "Red kids" that charge Betacam rates. You want to follow them, as rate setters....

Feedback didn't look good - only sold two items before and both had negative feedback. Still, it didn't stop me trying to bid!

This listing has one single ridiculous tiny clipart photo (and on a listing that says you get everything in the photo). Seller has negative feedback. No wonder few people bid. Doesn't seem like an outright scam, but who knows what problems, defects, etc. there'll be.

While that really looks too good to be true, the reality in the current market as of today is that anything which is not a Canon C-series of a BMCC is going for the price of a couple of bananas. The FS100 is basically "free" already. The F3 is going for the price of two bananas and a tomato. Saw some bodies going for the price of this one (although without the lenses) and even "older" bigger full sized high-end cameras are going for less than a new C300. Lots of REDs, specially Scarlet and RED ONE going for cheap too. It's the market reality we live in today. RED came and kicked the door wide open on the cheapness. Others had to play catch and drop their prices. Then RED releases more updates to sensors than teenagers change their minds about what they want to be when the grow up. So the other manufacturers had to again play catch up and release more frequent updates. The result is quicker depreciation of prior models. We get it cheaper and faster, but we also lose more money on the sale later. Can't have it both ways. And it will only get worse, much worse.

On Ebay the other week, I had numerous folks emailing me on the side offering numbers like $4300, etc.

I decided there had to be others like me that weren't going to be selling their F3s at firesale prices and that if I stuck to my guns, I could get much closer to what I wanted. I was right.

It's true the market is flooded at the moment, but the stupid prices, there aren't enough of them to satisfy the demand now that people moving up have got their appetite going.

That's why I can't wait for the F5 to hurry up and come out. Pre-order buyers, please take care of your cameras. One of those is going to be mine in one year when the body prices have dropped to about 5k.

I don't imagine that Sony is selling very many "new" F3's at full list price currently which really stops their cash flow until the new products are released.

So the F5 is actually not replacing the F3 right? I wonder if Sony will cut the F3 price down. As it is their prices are pretty close. At BH the difference is about $2500. I would rather pay $2500 to have a F5. I can't imagine who would buy a new F3 over a F5 with theses prices.

yep, that's all pretty weird.
these prices for a camera that does so much is just ridiculous. my 7 year old ex1 would make me more money in relation to the original price than selling off my f3...
i thought i could get some decnt money for f3 inkl samurai, but you don't...
so i'll stick to it, try to shut my eyes and ears for at least a year and get me the next best thing then.
in the meantime i'll ease my" wanna have newest thingy" surge with a 4bank 4ft and a diva lite from kino....
grrrrrrr...

You wanted to sell the F3 to get a F5?

Just wondering, what is it the F5 can do for you that the F3 can't in this point in time?

oops, sorry, thought it was 7 already...
well, no i wouldn't buy the f5. i was going for the f55.. cfa, progressive scan and frame rates the reasons... in that order...

Well the obvious is 4k raw, but otherwise it's a really good point you make. Upon shipping the F5 will only let you shoot: 4k raw, XAVC 10-bit 1-60p, MPEG 422 30p/60i... and that's it.

From that point forward only the firmware updates being released throughout 2013 will unleash: 2k RAW, 2k XAVC, SR codec, and HFR (over 60p up to 120p/180p) and not to start any rumours but the release schedule is pretty spread throughout 2013 from what I've been told.

Now looking at it from this perspective along with the current volatility in the market I'm not sure it makes any sense to jump on board an F5 that might not be fully functional until the end of the year. That's a hell of a lot of depreciation to incur just to be an early adopter, and for what, 4k raw?

Hm you got me thinking Adam, you got me thinking...

Oh, the F55 is a whole 'nother ball game and a well worthy upgrade. The global shutter alone already makes it a great choice, if it holds up well image wise, which it should.
