C300: Easyrig recommendations for C300mkii?

Hey ya'll

Finally going to cave in and pick up an Easyrig, these long hand held shoots are killing me.

Any recommendations for an Easyrig model and accessories well suited for the C300 mkii?

Thanks!

Sean

Haven't used with the c300 before, but I always prefer the look of easy rig footage shot with the Serene arm. Not a fan of the jerkiness that can be pervasive in easy rig footage.

I have the cinema vario 5 with the serene.

I used the easy rig for almost a year before I got the serene. It's really pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Gives you the ability to shoot from the hip or up on the shoulder. Great for gimbals as well.

Thanks for the perspective, I see Lkorver says something similar.

Are you not able to do hip shots with the normal EasyRig configuration? You need the serene arm for it? It's a shame its so ridiculously priced.

Arm and vest is another option.
Standing still the rod and belt works well.
Are you currently shooting shoulder mount?

Either shoulder mount or simply cradling the camera, I much prefer the latter. I haven't taken to using an EVF very well tbh. That's why I figured easy rig would be great for non-moving shots

You can certainly work without the serene. But getting on the shoulder is actually pretty tricky with an easy rig, because you have a string pulling the top of the camera toward you at all times. The serene can swing around right and left to get the camera properly over your shoulder. And you can dial down the tension of the spring so it actually rests on your shoulder.

I would suggest testing both versions out if you get a chance.

With the C300 II and 24-70 F2.8 II + CMIT5U (to give total weight), I had good luck with a simple rod + belt after removing the spring thing from top (to make rigid), and adding a Manfroto one-axis tilt quick release plate. Same design, different maker (under $100): https://www.amazon.com/Dovewill-Lightweight-Support-Shoulder-Camcorder/dp/B076SYMTW7

This could also work:

The Vario 5 would work but is overkill for a C300. We rent the EasyRig 300-3 all the time for Cinema EOS cameras but someone here in the forum was praising the EasyRig Minimax recently as well.

Thanks John, thats helpful information. I'll see if it's possible to rent one with a serene here in Toronto

After some research I'm also looking at the MiniMax. It falls well within its weight restrictions and is pretty cost effective.

I have the MiniMax and for the price it works great with my C200 setup. It's super lightweight, the arm swivels left and right no problem, and I can get it down pretty close to the hip. The more expensive ones feel better, but they're also way heavier to wear.

In a perfect world they'd offer the MiniMax with the gimbal/female vest as that's a lot more comfortable in my opinion, but seeing as the Minimax is so much cheaper than all the rest of them, I doubt we see any upgrades or additional options there.

Thanks for the input man!

For the minimax do you suggest picking up the quick release hook? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...g_erig_ea033_q_quick_release_camera_hook.html
Not sure how necessary it is but I saw someone using it in a video and it seemed pretty handy

I installed, er, failed to install it and had to send it in to Easyrig to fix and reinstall it for me (read the instructions VERY carefully). I definitely like it better because I can take it off with one hand and pop it back on in a split second. Just be mindful that you’ll need a top handle that has 1/4 20 or 3/8 threads where your center of gravity is because it’s not like the normal handle where you can just slide it back and forth until you find the balance point.

I rent mine out a lot so I also modified the original handle to work with the quick release. You can see pics of it here: https://www.sharegrid.com/sandiego/l/41972?type=rent

Hi all,

Looking at the minimax too I think the Vario 5 is a great combo but pricey too.

Chris, how much weight have you pushed it too? Thanks

If you aren't looking for a shoulder mount support, I suggest taking a look at the Ready Rig as an alternative.
